The Lyrics

The original front-page story, in Charleston S.C.'s Post and Courier on January 21, described an unusual sting operation by local police.
Your rickshaw ride in Charleston
Can't explore that magic town;
The driver's only licensed
A - pick-up, B - set you down.

Official guides in Charleston
Have to pass exams and train;
Rapt carriage-tour riders and foot-groups
Can't block ante-bellum lanes.

A pedicab lurks at your hotel,
Marks you for a heinous crime;
A sleazy eager historian
Who is keen to sell his time.

To stamp out such nasty infractions
Wired police devised a sting
Attired for entrapment as tourists
Massive fines recordings bring.

Few hours in scenic Charleston ?
Cruise-lined there by Carnival,
Snubbed by snobby South-of-Broad locals ?
Don't treat Rick Shaw as a pal.

If gliding past Fort Sumter
And re-boarding is a must,
Steer clear of "Rick"'s tempting discussions -
It might be a tourist bust.

I bet Carnival paid the cops a neat sum to get rid of the free-lance competition. A major function of the police is to raise money for the city by issuing tickets for minor offenses. This harmless citizen got a $25 ticket for an "open container" violation. How the hell can I drink the beer without opening the container? It's getting so you can't even take a leak against a building anymore. That costs $75. In other words, after you shake, you get shaken down. There's no logic; they got you coming and going. After drinking beer from an open container, you just have to pee against a building (preferably the 73rd precinct house). So you're out $100 bucks total for the imbibing and the inevitable. Good freedom-fighting parody. I don't vote here. "It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."

If firefighters fight fire, do freedom fighters fight freedom?
