The Lyrics

Recently in the GOP debates Mitt Romney offered Perry a wager of $10,000 over a dispute over what Romey had wrotten in his book. The remark seemed to cause some controversy over Romney's image as a rich outsider that is out of touch with the economic situation he would face as President. The $10k represented one-fifth of Iowan median incomes in the state and some found the remark offensive during such bad economic times. Romney is worth between $190-250 million and that remark makes him look like another rich candidate trying to buy his way to the Oval Office b/c he has the resources. His remark may cost him...
The GOP debates are dreadful,
But they are still on schedule,
Romney and Perry let go,
Bet was low! Bet was low! Bet was low!

Attacks on Romney weren‘t stopping,
But his response was jaw-dropping,
That $10k wager low,
Bet was low! Bet was low! Bet was low!

Some Iowans were angry that night,
Bet was one-fifth of median incomes,
Romney is an outsider alright,
Well-off is where he comes from

His numbers are slowly fading,
Due to Anti-Romney hating,
His worth $250 mil shows,
Bet was low! Bet was low! Bet was low!

Debating the dollar value of Romney's bet as political metaphor is intellectual Play-Doh, but in the spirit of seasonal gamesmanship, my two cents: Ten thousand dollars was the perfect number. A dollar would have been silly; $10 trite. A hundred would have seemed amateurish; a thousand, too studied. At the higher end, $100,000 would have been boastful, and a million would have tied Romney to the millionaire's club to which he does belong -- but the man is not a braggart. Ergo, $10,000 was an amount he could afford to lose (the first rule of betting), and it was high enough to demonstrate his certitude.

Don't really know much about these guys, being a Brit and all, but the satire of this one was spot-on, so a big 555 for this one!
