The Lyrics

Here's another excursion into the area of free speech. After hearing the whining and vitriol from certain quarters for eight years, there's a sudden interest (from that side) in maintaining civility and decorum. We who endured the ugliness in relative silence are now speaking out loudly and clearly and with truth on our side. And so we ridicule those who would have us hold our tongue because they can't argue the facts. So sorry - no more mister nice guys and gals. We've learned out lessons. ;-)
POP GOES PELOSI

Congress booed our President Bush
Reporters threw their sandals
The pundits thought ‘twas all the rage
Pop goes Pelosi!

Barry spoke insulted us
Barry called us liars
Joe cried out he’d had enough
Pop goes Pelosi!

The pundits cried like they were in shock
Had never heard such venom
And all he said was that we all thought
Pop goes Pelosi!

Don’t you try to spit on me
Tell me that it’s raining
Lie to me and I’ll tell you to kiss …
Pop Goes Pelosi!

The actions of people such as Pelosi inflict real harm on the lives of real people. They are not entitled to politeness or decorum, which they only interpret as weakness. Politics is going to have to get rough if we ever hope to regain our freedoms. Nicely rhymed verse from an old English song about pawning one's possessions in times of economic hardship. Line 3 verse 3 should read "what we all thought".

F**k 'em all! Nice job.

Great job! Now this made me laugh! Nice to turn a children's song into a political piece as well! 5's!

Well done. To speak to your preface, I thought the brouhaha over Decorum-Gate would assuage some if one ever pointed out the rowdiness of British Parliament as a comparison. However, I learned Parliament will suspend it's members immediately if one accuses another member of "lying or being drunk". So even the jeers are gentlemanly despite the plenitude. So I don't know if I can defend Wilson on this one.

@ Patrick - Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I actually wrote it with "what" originally but the two words starting with :W" were a little awkward I thought. Valid popoint though.

@ JB - Thanks. It's the hypocrisy that gets me. The last line really sums up my feelings on the issue.

@ Christie M - Thanks Christie! Always happy when I can make someone laugh and think at the same time. @ LSUFreek - Oh, I agree it was improper, Freek. Just as it was improper for Obama to call US liars in a very ugly un-presidential speech that had no specifics, was divisive, and belonged on the campaign trail. He was wrong (even though he was RIGHT) and apologized. Pelosi is now playing politics. Big surprise. If it were me I'd have yelled, "Mr. President, you're being disingenuous!" But somehow I think that might have had too many syllables for effect. ;-) The upside is that the House IMMEDIATELY starting writing enforcement provisions into their monstrous bill ... not that that won't be changed or overturned later.
LSUFreek - September 16, 2009 - Report this comment
Well said. Hey, instead of ""Mr. President, you're being disingenuous!" , Wilson could have borrowed from Churchill's loophole insult/jeer "You're being economical with the truth!" , which is about the only thing the POTUS is being thrifty with.

LSUFreek, that's priceless ... funny on multi-levels, which is the genius of true wit!

I love the sound of a good, deserved political beat-down in the morning. Way to hit the nail on the head!

Payback's a b*tch, and so is Pelosi. Good logic, well argued, well said. Loved the outro! 555

I didn't think it was that good. Pacing was fine, but the content was...meh.. not great IMO. I will vote 5 for pacing, but I'm unsure about funny and overall at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback, Gigi (don't know if you're a regular) and I'm sorry this didn't tickle you. Just visualizing Nancy pelosi's eyes"popping" out makes me laugh. Not everyone has the same tastes which make life more interesting. Some of the people I love most don't get me at all? Did you "get" the original song, btw? I didn't understand it until I was quite a bit older, although there are many different interpretations. ;-)

'Tis a conflagration devoutly to be wished...! ;)

Yeah, she is a "treat". What a great "oh, I am so outraged" look as she sat behind Barry when Joe had his say. Why do the Dems put her in charge; is this as good as it gets for them?

"'Tis a conflagration devoutly to be wished..." You really should finish that one out, fair maiden! ... Uh-oh, it looks like your partner beat you to it. He'll post it Friday, saith my sayer of sooths, forsooth, (as his quota of slings and arrows for Thursday is already filled), but thee will well be credited.

Wilt thou be good enough to inform my partner that he is "a most pathetical nit"? ;)

Mark S - Thanks! Yeah, such whining I've never heard!

Fiddlegirl - "To lie; to creep; to bleep; perchance to scream: aye, there is the hub ... bub!" ;-)

Perhaps first, fair maiden, might ponder that 'tis been said:

A man is known by the company he keeps.

And so mayhaps a woman as well; therefore, 'tis meet, methinks, to reflect with care ere dare to dis thy partner, less thy dissing back on thee reflect.

Upon reflection, it *does* seem that my comments could be misconstrued as mean-spirited, cutting, and otherwise "beyatching" (as TT put it elsewhere.)

If so, then I owe Tommy an apology. Rest assured that my affection and admiration for the Turtle is bigger than the Texas sky, and that I worship the salt water in which he swims, the burrow in which he nests, the keyboard upon which he types, the... well, you get the picture.
