"I Am...I Said"
The Funny Lyrics: I am I said To no one there
and no one heard at all, not even the chair. Why They're Funny: Boy, ole Neil was really stretching for a rhyme the day he wrote this song. I mean, does his chair normally perk up its ears when he declares his existence? It must be comforting for Neil to believe in a sentient race of anthropomorphic chairs, especially when he's struggling with his own existence so. But personally I think it would have been more characteristic and possibly more colorful and authentic if he had just said 'Not even my flares'.....Oh I know it's not nice to poke fun at Neil but he is *such* an easy target!

"Sweet Caroline"
The Repetitive Lyrics: Sweet Caroline (bum bum bum)
Good times never seemed so good... Why They're Repetitive: Well, that's pretty deep Neil. Good times are good. Perhaps a thesaurus would have aided you on your quest for synonyms? Or...did you forget you already used the word? Why? Why did you write something that bad?

"America"
The Inappropriate Lyrics: Free, only want to be free we huddle close, hang on to a dream
On the boats and on the planes they're coming to America. Why They're Inappropriate: I understand what these lyrics mean they've just always came across as racist in a way the way there sang if you listen to the song, think about it, on the boats and on the planes, they're comin to America. I love my country but it's a horrible song IMO.

The Inappropriate Lyrics: ...being lost is worth the coming home.
Why They're Inappropriate: Shouldn't it be, 'coming home is worth being lost? The lyrics don't seem to add up. Also, what is it about the 'chair' in this song. A. Huxley would be proud.

"If You Know What I Mean"
The Dated Lyrics: When we gave it away, for the sake of a dream
In a penny arcade, if you know what I mean Why They're Dated: While the song was written from a nostalgic viewpoint, the term "penny arcade" sounds almost like the late 19th/early 20th Century. By 1976 (the year the song was released), penny arcades were mostly obsolete, mostly being replaced by pinball arcades; soon after, they became known as video arcades.

The Dated Lyrics: She's sittin' up there and fumin'.
She thinks I'm something inhuman. She'd rather be with Paul Newman. Why They're Dated: Since Paul Newman died in 2008, he's probably no longer a good choice as to whom she'd rather be with.

"Cracklin' Rosie"
The Lyrics: Oh, I love my Rosie child.
She got the way to make me happy. You and me, we go in style. Cracklin' Rose, you're a store bought woman. You make me sing like a guitar hummin'. So hang on to me, girl, Our song keeps runnin' on. Why: The most distinctly grammatical error here is in the second line above, which ought to be "She has the way to make me happy." A usual grammatically incorrect substitution for "He has" or "She has", etc., is "He's got" or "She's got", etc., which sometimes get transformed still more by omitting the apostrophe and "s", as in the second line above. But more grammatically confusing in this whole passage is the sudden shift from singing of the title character in the third person in the first two lines above to addressing someone in the second person thereafter. Technically the third line above is ambiguous as to whom he's addressing, because "You" in that line has no antecedent. In the fourth line he calls the addressee by name, so I guess listeners are meant to assume in retrospect that he was already addressing her in the third line. But that is technically ambiguous since immediately before the third line he was referring to her in the third person.

| "Play Me"
The Lyrics: Song, she sang to me; Song, she brang to me
Why: "Sang" is indeed the past tense of "sing", but that doesn't mean that "brang" is the past tense of "bring"

The Lyrics: Well, I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores. LA's fine, but it ain't home. New York's home but it ain't mine no more. Why: Refers to New York City, and to Los Angeles, California. If the Atlantic and Pacific shores of the U.S. also count as places, a reference to those could also be cited.
