The Lyrics

The original has an infinity of titles and variations. "Crazy Way of Loving" became "Crazy Little Women" when played on the radio. This parody is based on printed lyrics found on a couple of web sites together with my memories of hearing the Wilbert Harrison version on the radio.
Sailing Lake Superior
Detroit steel mills, here we come
Sailing Lake Superior
Detroit steel mills, here we come
You've got an appetite for iron ore
And we're gonna bring you some

I'll be standing at the railing
While my fat belly is getting tossed
Gonna be standing at the railing
While my old stomach is being tossed
Anything the cook might bring me
Will just come right back up and will be lost

Well, they use steel in trains
They use steel in planes
They use steel in trash cans
But it all starts out just the same
We're going to Detroit steel mills
Detroit steel mills, here we come
We've got a zillion tons of ore on board
And we're gonna bring you some

I'll put on my life vest
Stand at the edge of doom
I'll inflate my Mae West
Everyone will be in panic
In the life boat there's not much room
'Cause if I stay, then soon
I know I'm gonna die
Gotta find a rescue vessel
And that's the reason why
I'm leaving the Ed Fitzgerald
Ed Fitzgerald, overboard
The ship is breaking up and sinking now
Still got all the ore on board
For those who are familiar with the original song, the corner of 12th Street and Vine no longer exists. The city did place a simulated street sign in the middle of a divider between east and west bound 12th Street to mark where the famous intersection once existed. 18th and Vine, with the Gem Theater and Negro League Baseball Museum is a tourist attraction still under development.
