I plopped in my director's chair
and said, "Let's film Scene 2!"
A bad old sucker named Anakin
saw the smoke and walked right through.
He's dressed in black from head to toe
and said with an evil laugh
"If you don't give me the plans in that droid
I'll saw you all in half!"
And then I noticed...

His voice was wrong.

He sounded like a 12-year-old Scotsman!

A-a-and then along came Jones!
James Earl Jones!
Stage-boxing Jones!
(Deep-talking Jones!)
Along came voice for Vader, Jones!

The studio's booked, and we walked in
and showed James Earl the scene.
I said, "I want this Vader guy
to sound supremely mean.
He can't sound high and squeaky like
the guy in the suit, Dave Prowse.
"So if I don't give you that deep, dark voice
Darth'll sound like Mickey Mouse?"

And then he sat there.

He put on the headphones.
(And then?)
He said, "Is this thing on?"
(And then? And then?)

A-a-and then along came Jones!
James Earl Jones!
Stage-boxing Jones!
(Deep-talking Jones!)
Along came voice for Vader, Jones!

(saxophone break)

That voice I loved, the film took off
and the sequels were a go!
And they were the same old shoot-em-up
in a space-side rodeo!
Lord Darth Vader still brings chills
and brings those Rebel screams!
He said,
"If you don't turn to the Dark Side, son
I'll knock you to a field of dreams!"

But then they fought there!
(And then?)
Vader turned good again!
(And then?)
James Earl made some other movies!
(And then?)
Lots of money started comin'!
(And then? And then?)
