The Lyrics

The downside to insomnia is that when you actually do get a good night's sleep, it can be very hard to haul yourself out of bed in the morning. The original version of this is one that I often believe I can sing when I'm singing in the shower. (For the purposes of making sense, this version - like the original - is designed to be sung by two singers.)
(Me) Bed? Bed? I can't get out of bed!
I'm much too warm to try to get up yet!
Sleep! Sleep! I'll surely sleep tonight!
No alarm clock dares to wake me up!

I could have slept all day
I could have slept all day
And still have dozed some more
Curled right up in these sheets
Counted a thousand sheep - never done that before
I'll never know what makes it so relaxing
Why all at once my heart rate slows
I only know when I put my pyjamas on
I can just sleep, sleep, sleep all day!

(My mum) It's after three now
Don't you agree now?
She should get out of bed

(Me) I could just sleep all day
I might just sleep all day
Then try to sleep some more
I'll curl up in these sheets
Count up a thousand sheep and then a thousand more
I just don't know what makes it so relaxing
Or why the bath tub calms me so
I only know when I put my pyjamas on
I could just sleep, sleep, sleep all day!

(My mum) Alarm clock's gone off
Don't you dare nod off

(Me) I think I slept all day
I think I slept all day
Yet tried to sleep some more
I curled up in these sheets
Counted a thousand sheep and then a thousand more
Really don't know what makes it so relaxing
Why all at once I start to yawn
I only know when I put my pyjamas on
I will just sleep, sleep, sleep all day!

The Pomfret - May 12, 2006 - Report this comment
Delightful! You know, and this is not a joke, because I do this myself; this is just the thing that a nursing home or senior citizen group just loves. They are old enough to know the song and appreciate the very skilled lyrics. And the singer doesn't have to learn a new tune. With gratitude, The Pomfret. (Old, appreciative, etc.)
