MINISTER’S INTERRUPTION

(A minister bursts into the office. He’s not happy!)

Minister
Do I detect a meeting here?
I thought I had made it clear
That if I came across one
Someone would swing, do you hear?
People, you listen to me
You may think your time is near
But that time is still far away!

Things are nowhere near perfection
I confess that times are rough.
A can of worms is widespread
But that means one must be tough.
I see a man over there
Who’s trying to learn a new trade.
No doubt he’ll deem it unfair
When he finds he’s underpaid.
I see some people have gone
But is it something I’ve done?

Macintosh
Why on earth did you come down here?
Have you something good to say?
We were doing well around here
Why don’t you just go away!

(The staff start packing up)

Minister
Can it be that I’m not wanted
After all I’ve done for you.
I admit we’ve had some problems
But you haven’t got a clue!
These are times when we all suffer
And recession’s got a grip.
If you want to blame somebody
Take it out on our Chief Whip!

Macintosh
I suppose you’re just a victim
Like the rest of us, and so
If there’s nothing else to do here
I suggest you off and go!

Minister
I presume you’ll keep complaining
And there’s nothing else to say.
If you close this union meeting
I’ll be up and on my way!
