The Lyrics

Leo Keough suggested that AIR stop the Left-Right infighting and concentrate on sending up our real enemies. Great idea, Leo! So, Left, Right, everyone, here's that trend-starter.

OS movie sound track was slightly changed in the the distributed (radio) version, which eliminates reference to the killer by name, for those who might not have seen the movie. *Both* versions, along with an excellent mp3, are here. Parody follows the most well-known version, as sung by Frankie Laine for radio play, but has a substitute verse at the end to keep the syllable-matching with the original movie title song as sung by Tex Ritter, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song (plus Best Score, Editing, and Best Actor for Gary Cooper).

Do not forsake us, B. Obama
Head of the U.S... A --- a
We've many problems econom-a
Great ...debate ***

We do not know what fates await us ***
At home, abroad, we must be brave
For many terrorists still hate us
And progress ploddin'
Ain't found Bin Laden
Must turn his cave into his grave.

Congess is rife: divisive spewing
Positive? Nothing really doing
How will we ever get along?
Landscape: hate-strewn

You made a vow in campaign letter
Promised us things would change for better
We're holding in our breath but, oh, --
We all want to ... still believe thee!

Do not forsake us, B. Obama
You made this promise in campaign
We're all so sick of melodrama
With Congress theiving
And naught achieving
While USA goes down the drain

Get along! Must be strong!
Worried throng
Hence, my song....

*** To better syllable-match the actual movie score, substitute this line and verse for the ones marked above::

Great... debate, long

This ain't no fiction movie thriller
At home, abroad, we must be brave
For still at large, that deadly killer
And progress ploddin'
Ain't found Bin Laden
Must turn his cave into his grave

Hadn't intended to post a song today, but had just finished watching "High Noon" (again), saw the parallels, and the parody was knocked out in eight minutes. Guess that's why the movie is called a "classic" -- its themes are still as relevant today as they were 57 years ago.

The best parodies seem to write themselves. This is a good one. "High Noon", masterpiece that it is, perpetuates a myth of the Old West as a place where one hero had to step up while everyone else cowered in fear. Real frontier towns were populated by Civil War veterans and people who crossed the prairies in covered wagons fighting bandits, Natives, and Nature along the way. They all had guns, and were unlikely to be pushed around by a gang of strangers. In reality, the gang would have been shot down by the townfolk before they'd have gotten off the station platform. See Richmond, Missouri 1866, Mankato, Minnesota 1871, Coffeyville, Kansas 1892. I hope President Obama is open to reminders from the public of the essential job that still remains to be done. We the people can take care of the economy if the government would simply get out of the way. Taking care of security is the real reason we need the feds at all.

I applaud this parody 5-by-5 and agree with your sentiments--at least we're still the most powerful country in... North America!
BTW, great song choice and thinks for da' links!

Will have one coming with this same song in the near future...good work here..

Good song and parody. I agree with the sentiment; like or dislike either side, but it is better for all of us if he is successful.

Leo Keough: Thanks, and you're welcome!
Mark Scotti: Thanks!
alvin: thanks ... uh, "which" last line? lol!
2Eagle, Thanks.
Patrick: Yep on writing themselves. Lots of fictional romancing of the Old West, but the good/evil, courage/cowardice, right/wrong themes are eternal... thanks for v/c, and agree on last two sentences.
pArAlLeL pRoFeSsOr: glad ya enjoyed yer golf! ... Canada and Mexico may pass us any day, at this rate... thanks for v/c, PP!
AFW: Thanks... this classic is always a good OS base. Looking forward to it.
Timmy1000: Thanks, and ya hit the nail on the head. thanks for v/c, T1k.

Clever concept, TT. Of course, your assessment of the thieving congress which cannot make difficult decisions is spot on.

John Jenkins: Thank you, Sir.

This is nice. "High Noon" is one of my all-time horse opera favourites, though it is highly melodramatic and schmalzy.

Susanna Viljanen, thanks.
Peter Andersson - May 09, 2009 - Report this comment
DKTOS but in my head I wanted to sing the main line (minus the B) to "Don't cry for me Argentina", but maybe just because it seemed to fit the tone of your lyrics.
Tommy Turtle - May 09, 2009 - Report this comment
Peter Andersson: If you've never seen the movie, "High Noon", it's a classic among the American Western genre and won four Academy Awards. It's available on DVD and well worth renting, and not just for the title song! Try it and let me know how you liked it. Thanks for stopping by.
