The Lyrics

In late 1942 the order was given for a massive tank destroyer to be built on the Panther chassis as Tank Destroyer. What was designed was a masterpiece of craftmanship. With lower tonnage at 46 tons vs 50-55 for the Panther and more speed out of the Maybach HL230/P30 engine up to 30+ mph and mounting the 88mm PAK 43/3 L/71 gun in a highly armored fixed structure covered in anti-magnetic Zimmerit paste, the Jagdpanther was the best tank destroyer of WW2, bar none. A formidable hunter, it was supplied to 7 Panzer Divisions and took part in the Ardennes Offensive all the way to the defeat of Germany, taking with it large amounts of enemy armor. Participating in the West, the Allies usually called on air-support to take out this beast in the same way they dealt with Tigers. The Jagdpanther had 80mm front armor, 50mm side armor, 40mm rear armor, and 25/16mm top/bottom armor. Each carried 57 rounds and it had an aux. 7.92mm MG as well as turret top defense system. The bigger 70 ton Jagdtiger with the 128 mm gun and massive 250mm armor plating was only produced in very small numbers- 77 total and was far less mobile than the Jagdpanther and less successful. Used on the Western front as well, most were just mobile blockhouses and easy targets for aircraft. Most ran out of gas or rounds and were abandoned.
German Jagdpanther ruled
on front line

Project was started in ‘42
MIAG designin’
Panther providin’

Hitler would demand it
Firin’ 88mm rounds
46 ton beast deadly
Able to take all Allied tanks down

German Jagdpanther ruled
on front line
Refined

They feared you
They feared you
They feared you
Your 88 fist- POW!!!
They took great care
To avoid your firing
Called for air-support- NOW!!!

Quite a feat
German Jagdpanther ruled
on front line
(took a lot to defeat)

Rob - I may have seen one of these at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds exhibits. Formidable! ;D

Yes, you did- Aberdeen is great, but has no Maus supertank- that's at Kubinka Museum in Russia which also has the sole Krupp Kugelpanzer ball tank and sole Alkett VsKfz 617 minesweeper. See links below for all of these from one of my books: http://strangevehicles.greyfalcon.us/Alkett.htm http://strangevehicles.greyfalcon.us/PANZERKAMPFWAGEN%20VIII%20MAUS.htm http://strangevehicles.greyfalcon.us/KRUPP%20KUGELPANZER.htm
