Song Parodies -> "Japs Made Light Out of You"

Original Song Title:

"I Put a Spell on You"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Parody Song Title:

"Japs Made Light Out of You"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

Man has learned to use the light-producing ability of other organisms in several ways. For example, during World War II the Japanese use dried preparations of a marine crustacean, Cypridina. On adding water to the dried material a dim glow was produced – sufficient light for maps and compasses to be read without giving away their position. They had developed a crude form of bioluminescence. The Germans, OTOH, developed massive amounts of light from water using a sonic device- sonoluminescence... but that is another story....
Japs made light out of you
amazing find

Chemists searchin’ for a breakthrough
Cypridina dryin’
With water combinin’

Wartime matches could not be lit
And no use of kerosene
Didn’t want to give-away position
Bio light able to read maps unseen

Japs made light out of you
amazing find
Bio-shine

They dried you
They dried you
They dried you
Added water too
Shaken with care
In darkness, could now see
Produced reading light in a tube

WW2 secrecy
Japs made light out of you
amazing find
(bioluminosity)
Sorry to use the derogatory WW2 term "Japs" but it was the only 1 -syllable word available. Japanese is 3 syllables!!!

I once had a parody fail to post, I thought, for use of that 3 letter word used in the 1940's to designate the people we were at war with. Guess I'll try and post it again.

Reminds me of those little green things that you snap open, and they glow in the dark... Nice parody Rob! 555! :-)

WCJ, yes this was an early bio-military "glow stick". And Patrick, I noted in the bottom box that I had to use that term b/c of syllables. Japanese does not work and neither does Nipponese!!!

I know that you weren't trying to insult the Japanese Rob, sometimes as far as pacing is concerned, it does work that way, I mean you couldn't have even used just plain "Japan" either, if it was only supposed to be one syllable in the song. ;-)

The only thing I see that you could have done, but it probably would have spoiled the parodies title, was to call it "Japan made light of you" and drop the "out" but, like I said, that would ruin the idea. ;-)
