The Lyrics

There are so many claimed origins for the Hamburger, but of course the name is derived from the port city of Hamburg. So I'll take it from there as the modern origin of this "American" classic!!!
Hamburger: German view
19th century time

Started with good old Otto (Kuasw)
Beefsteak servin'
Add fried egg mit two buns!

German sailors loved it
Spread the word around
Often requested it in NY
There it spread from town to town
(Steak houses liked the "Hamburger" sound)

Hamburger: German view
19th century time
American icon refined...

Add lettuce, pickles, tomatoes

Until WW2
Anti-German food
Renamed to boot
Called it "Liberty Steak"
French Fries* added there
New meal complete
Postwar fast food did take

From Germany
Hamburger: German view
American icon refined
(Liberty Sausage was Frankfurter- silly!)
* French Fries were actually Belgian fries covered in gravy coveted by French troops in WW1. They loved them so much that they were changed to French Fries. In WW2, people started to serve French Fries with the Liberty Steaks served on a plate with gravy as a side. Add Coca-Cola and you get the first fast food items that sold well. McDonald's redefined hamburger sandwich with the Big Mac. This was originally Deutsches Beefsteak from 1881!!!

AiR is,a parody site where all works are judged. Criticism is part of that, so is praise. No worries.

I just got this image in my head of President Kennedy delivering his famous Berlin speech in a different German city. "Ich bin ein Hamburger". Or Ronald Reagan "Mr Gorbachev, do you want fries with that"? During WWI "Hamburger" became Liberty Steak. In 2003, you could have your hamburger with "Freedom Fries".
