Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Power Compelling You"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

At the suggestion of Rob Arndt. [Father Merrin (Max von Sydow) to the devil in Miss MacNeil (Linda Blair)]
Power compelling you
is Christ’s, divine.

I’m beslimed with peasoup-like goo
while you’re lyin’
there, evil-eyein’.

You once did a handstand
on stairs, coming down.
Shameless how you grandstand!
I’m no damned fan, as you’ve by now found.

And so I’m telling you
to get in line!

I’m all goo
’cause of you;
out it blew,
but no “Euw!!”
did I sound.

Get out of there—
from Regan please flee,
do not rebound.

Don’t fear me?!

It’s back to hell with you. . .
I don’t feel fine!

Nice to see you still have the "Spell". I've only seen brief fragments of the movie, but I thought "The Exorcist" was the funniest book I'd ever read. Couldn't stop laughing. Guess being Catholic helped.

Another Spell has come over you JAB-555!!! When Exorcist came out it was highly controversial with people fleeing the theaters and vomiting. My mom forbid us boys to see it and we snuck in and saw it. We laughed our asses off. Of course, the Catholic church was offended. Same scrutiny was shared with the original Death Wish film starring Charles Bronson. I think you should do a Spell on that film too.

Dave's comment would certainly scare the hell out of me. I went to see Death Wish One at a downtown theater at night with an antique .32 caliber gun in my pocket. Same type as described in the Brian Garfield novel, not the Colt used in the movie. I'll have to watch "The Exorcist" some day, especially if it is as hilarious as the book. The rite of exorcism is a bit of an embarrassment to the Church, but I have seen somewhere that the Vatican is working on a modernized version.
