The Lyrics

I grew up in the 1970s and Stuntman Supreme & Daredevil Devine was Evel Knieval that started out as a thief and then got into stunt riding that took him to amazing heights from jumping cars, vans, buses, and Mack trucks to an attempt to cross the Snake River with a rocket cycle. The man enjoyed the good life of women, money, fashion, fame, cars, boats, golf, and suffered some of the worst pain of any man alive having 12 major accidents that cost him concussions, lost teeth, and broken bones. But Knievel loved to please the crowds and prayed before each jump. I still remember him as an American icon that spawned a series of toys and collector's memorabilia that was all the rage in the mid-70s. He looked stunning in his #1 suit riding various Hondas and Harleys and even took on the Hell's Angel's in the Oakland Coliseum! Never took sh-t from anyone. He was inspired by Roy Rogers.
Loved Evel Knievel
in his time

Daredevil with something to prove
Bikes went flyin’
Evel survivin’

He once was a bandit
Turned his life around
The jumps became deadly
Caesar’s and Snake River came crashin’ down

[Fought Hell’s Angels with crowd in Oaktown]

Loved Evel Knievel
Stuntman divine
Heights climbed

“Iron Horse” wrooms
Bus and Mack zooms
Little room
Nor margin for error
And he didn’t care
‘Bout mortality
But crowd pleasure

[Was the victor]

USA
Loved Evel Knievel
Stuntman divine
(Life of pain price to pay)

[But he did it anyway!]
In his own words, "THERE IS NO KING, NO PRINCE, NO PRESIDENT, NO ATHLETE, NOBODY THAT HAS EVER LIVED A BETTER LIFE THAN ME"

Forgot to mention that I got to see EK when he rode his Honda 350 "American Eagle" doing wheelies like a champ :)

I remember the night Knievel was supposed to jump the tank full of sharks. Added a new phrase to the language. Actually he was in the hospital by the time the show aired, having crashed his bike earlier in the day during a rehearsal. The show also featured a fellow jumping a snowmobile over barrels, a man who blew himself up with dynamite, and Karl Wallenda walking between two hotels in Vegas on a high wire. Wallenda would die not long after from a fall in Puerto Rico. Knievel was once arrested in Kansas City for soliciting a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover cop. He told her she was too ugly to be a hooker. Look for a song "Ballad of Evel Knievel" by John Culliton Mahoney. Got some airplay in Kansas City just before the ill-fated Snake River Canyon jump.
