The Lyrics

Global warming has been declared officially to be real and man-made, but some holdouts remain skeptical. 1958 lyrics at http://www.lyricsdepot.com/peggy-lee/fever.html include middle stanzas from The McCoys 1965 version. "Hockey stick" is a chart of historic temperatures.
Never know how much above you,
Carbon oxides clutch high air,
Pen the sun's heat. Harm surrounds me;
I get a fever that we all must share.
It gives Earth fever, global warming,
Fever 'cause it holds sunlight.
Fever ... we'll be mournin',
Fever all have to fight.

Sun lights up the day time,
Man lights up the night.
Walk light, 'cause we are all to blame,
But I know we're gonna treat Earth right.
It gives Earth fever, global warming,
Fever 'cause it holds sunlight.
Fever ... we'll be mournin',
Fever all have to fight. (NOW!!)

Everybody's bought the fever;
That is somethin' you shall know.
Fever isn't such a new thing;
Fever started long time ago.

Maybe turns out that sun's light (yeah, yeah)
Can be shown to be (yeah, yeah)
Contrary, from dim to most bright, (yeah, yeah)
Makes each year's wine vary. (yeah, yeah)
Swell just a little bit higher (yeah, yeah)
And just a little bit brighter, maybe (yeah, yeah)

You've got a fever (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That soon may leave Earth; (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Again a fever (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
And then a heat dearth.

Ice and snow love cool, and yet
Ev'ry age a melting came.
Earth found nothing to astound her,
Until man, a babe, discovered flame.
Is not this fever man's condition?
Never heeds those saying sooth.
Fever ... must be dire
'Fore an inconvenient truth.

Albert Gore and Heidi Cullen
Showed a very sad white bear.
When ice pad aside might spill him,
They cried madly "Oh won't you care?"
It must be fever, that's what this is!
F'rever please yield your right;
Leave your highest wishes:
Caddy and new fleet in flight.

Now you've listened to their story;
Here's the point they think they've made:
Rats may scorn! Hockey stick's fever
Can't be natural, it's human-made.
You give new fever, we'll dismiss you;
Never will you live and learn.
Fever ... man will fizzle;
What unlovely ways to burn.
Needn't shove, await your turn.
Can we just say "nay" to burnin'?
Make that ev'ry day's concern.
If you sing this in public and people drop money, keep it; but drop a note to me at bjmitchel@att.net .

Some changes to mimic the original better are Line 28: That's gonna leave Earth; Line 35: Now drives this fever, man's ambition; Line 43: Adrift from fever, off he kisses; and Lines 43-46 should be in quotes.
