Song Parodies -> "Oh, Teresa"

Original Song Title:

"Mona Lisa"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Nat King Cole

Parody Song Title:

"Oh, Teresa"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Oh, Teresa, oh Teresa, it's a shame you
Tell people to "shove it," and you rarely smile.
And the hard right tries its hardest to defame you,
While they justify Cheney's words—much more vile.

He's servile, your second lover, oh Teresa—
Must have signed a prenup, in case you should part.
Your dreamboat has made too many missteps.
He's a shy square, and he'll die there:
In the booth, no appeal, 'cause Teresa,
You're viewed as cold, rich, aloof patrons of the arts.

[Instrumental break]

[Repeat second verse]

Thanks, alvin. The original came from an elegant guy. What a voice!

555, beautiful, JB. Yeah, Nat King Cole had an awesome one-of-a-kind voice, didn't he? It's almost a little embarrassing to be parodying his hit songs...but...his songs are just so delightfully ripe for parody, I'd do it anyway! ;-)

Thanks, JD. Well, I've just done another parody of "Mona Lisa." It's a personal thing, but I won't touch anything by Warren Zevon, my favorite songwriter and a master satirst. I did do a couple of his a long time ago, but nothing since he passed.

Well done, John. A very good job of phrasing the question - Is Sen. Heinz-Kerry shy or aloof? I tend to find him more arrogant, but I certainly don't blame Teresa for the prenup.
