Parody Song Title:

"Mahler Lieder"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Mahler Lieder, Mahler Lieder, much-acclaimed tunes.
Dude was late-Romantic in his chanting style.
Shubert, Schumann, then a new man made his name do’n’
his own Mahler Lieder music. . .makes me smile.

I go wild to hear it—love that Mahler Lieder,
how it harmonizes with the piano part.
When it seems he can’t go up one more step,
then it flies there to new highs there.
It has warming appeal, Mahler Lieder
I listen closely to this soul singing that’s art.

I go wild to hear it—love that Mahler Lieder;
he wrote pieces for this peaceful singing art.
When it seems he can’t go up one more step,
a new high’s there when it flies there.
No sturm und drang appeal, Mahler Lieder.
I listen closely and extol this singing art.

Mahler Lieder. Pal, can’t beat ya!

Nice way to link two art forms; each has its air of mystery and ambiguity. 5s

I'm a great admirer of the Symphony No. 5 Adagietto, the one used in Visconti's 'Death in Venice', but I never got far with the more formal choral stuff. Finely crafted, ambitious work. 55s for that.
