The Lyrics

OK, there are many incomplete parodies of our National Anthem, and I'll try to complete them all.
God of Nations, smell my feet,
In the local pub we meet,
Don't buy whiskey, it's too dear,
Buy our local DB beer.

Guard the greatest Double Brown
From the Aussie's, 'cause it's not an export
Make the law: The best wine's ours
God defend our alcohol.

Rocky, this type of wine may be unheard of in New Zealand, but when I was living in a gang-dominated neighborhood that was very much like a demilitarized zone, I had to lock up my Night Train, Thunderbird and MD 20/20. Those wines are best used for getting dead drunk as quickly as possible, but I enjoy drinking them for reasons other than intoxication. Furthermore, this was a funny parody, although I don't know any National Anthems other than "The Star-Spangled Banner".

I've got the idea from New Zealand Insurance ad. See, most of our greatest products had been exported or stolen from overseas, and seeing that we do have some world-class wines being grown and brewed here, so no surprise that I don't want too much of that being exported.

As an Aussie I have to say I never thought I would see this particular OS here! And yes, I do know it (being an avid Bledisloe cup watcher). Love the way the original anthem does the half/half with Maori and English. Good job with the parody. We already 'stole' Split Enz from you - and Dragon - you can keep the beer. Each state over here fights over their own brands anyway :)

Peregrin, You see, that is something Australians will never get: Why have we NEVER heard an Aborigine version of the Australian Anthem? Surely they have their own language, too.

Oh, I *get* it... ;-) Nothing I could say in answer to your question would come out sounding right, the issue is way to vexed for me to want to wade into any further!
