Original Performer:

Julie Andrews

Parody Song Title:

"Shouldn't It Be Parodied"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

The Lyrics

Protest song? THIS is a protest song!
Malcolm: Chuck says we cannot write songs wonderin' 'bout Pip and Merry! Hm!
Wild Man: The Mrs. wants to write about sex scenes on MTV! Hm!
Static: My doctor recommends a naughty song about Yankees!
All: Mm-hm! Mm-hm!
Shouldn't it be parodied?

Mike: All I want is a song somewhere
'bout a couple that's getting bare.
To post it would be fair.
Oh, shouldn't it be parodied?

Lots of shocking songs to complete.
Lots of lust bringing lots of heat.
No fetish for the feet?
Oh, shouldn't it be parodied?

Oh, so many parodies are written 'bout the deed.
But we never again can post that kind of stuff to read.

Someone's head filled with thoughts naughty.
Thoughts that aren't rated PG.
Can't do it, new decree!
Oh, shouldn't it be parodied?

Parodied? Parodied!
Parodied? Parodied!
The people have spoken! Vox populi vox dei! (And no, that's not foul language!)

Vox Pacholek, vox comedi?

Right on, Michael. A bunch of my best songs would not have made it under the new regime. d;:^)

Everyone's tastes differ. What is funny to one person, may be an obsenity to another. Seems to me, being the Webmaster here is not an easy job. I think if it were me, I'd draw the line at any X-rated material. The writers seem to be very clever and creative dealing with R-rated novelty subjects.
Seems to me there have been bigger battles at the site concerning politics and religion, than sexual subjects. Actualy, I'm quite surprised Chucky G made such a stand. I wish he'd spend half as much time banning spammers, who steal our names, our material, and those that mock our crediblity as humorists.
Spaff.com - December 10, 2003 - Report this comment
Loverly, Michaelopedia. And I agree with Diva, at least with the point that there are far worse things than dirty jokes. Still, I wouldn't want to be the one in charge of this site. Sometimes it must suck to be Chuck.

Good timing. If ya know what I mean.

Hear, hear, Diva!!! I agree

Banning spammers and name stealers is a little more complicated and time intensive, than passing a new rule. I need to review every parody submitted, so knowing that I won't be allowing sexual content of any kind is much easier than trying to decide if something "goes too far".

A password system for usernames for parody authors and the comment system, requires me to write code not just for checking a name and password, but also for creating a new account, allowing people to recover lost passwords, and also deleting the stuff that still appears to use someone's name (ie. underscores instead of spaces, or maybe a number one instead of a lowercase l, nonsense like that). And on top of all that, I also have to test it, and fix problems as they arise (usually from things I never thought to test or code for).

Passing a new policy change took three minutes to write it and upload it, and leave a message on the messageboard. Coding a user verification system is probably several hours, plus the overhead of admining it once it's up. Considering that if someone does spam a parody, that it won't get seen by more than a few dozen people at most before it's removed, I don't think it's that big a deal. If the spam was appearing on the front page of the site, that would be a bigger deal, since that gets seen by a few thousand people every day.

I think we understand the difficulties you face Chucky. I think we all agreed, that your job is not an easy one. I hope that you don't mind, if we speak our mind from time to time. Please understand that the authors find this type of spamming frustrating and insulting to the site. =) Thanks for your imput! You do us a great service by being our webmaster.

I hope my fellow writers, whom I like very much, will receive what I'm going to say. Some of you don't like his decision? Fine. Start your own website - it's not like it's all that expensive. From some of the comments I've seen over the past few days, you'd think that we writers owned this website, and hired Chuck to run it for us. It's Chuck's website - case closed.
Melhi - December 11, 2003 - Report this comment
David, I, too, was wondering why no one had set up some central sharing location. So, I set up a yahoogroup that can be used until someone else sets up something better. I posted about it on the parodies board.
David Chrenko - December 11, 2003 - Report this comment
Good idea, Mehli. Personally, I prefer the parodies that don't rely on bathroom, or bedroom humor, or (you know what) involving barnyard animals. I find that even some of the more (you know what) oriented writers here are funniest when they are not so focused on the same old (you know what) thing. At least they'll have another outlet they can use for the more (you know what) parodies.
Melhi - December 11, 2003 - Report this comment
Well, David, sometimes when I'm about say "Maybe someone should..." it dawns on me that I'm someone who could and that it wouldn't kill me. This was just one of those times.
ChuckyG - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
The funny thing is, I had a website setup specifically for parodies I considered too rude for this site, and no one wanted their stuff posted there if it wasn't acceptable for this site. Several people told me that they'd rather not post it there instead of here. So yeah, people are more than welcome to start up another site for the "blue" material.

I have nothing against people who want to comment on site policy, but there are a couple that I have to say aren't going to change. The sex thing is one of those, because webfilters will quickly filter your site out of listings, and people will find it harder to visit the site. Less people, means less parodies, etc.
Guy - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
I agree Chuck. You want to keep the site as easily accessible as possible. Making people get a user ID and PW token to get on would keep a lot of people off the site. I have hit sites that want a login to access them and unless it is something that I really want, I don't bother to go any further. I think that almost all the writers on the site would not want the site access limited since the idea is to have their stuff read, enjoyed and commented on.
Melhi - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
Well the little forum I set up didn't have any takers, yet, the last time I looked, but hopefully just that there is a central sharing location available for it, will take the heat off of you, Chucky. If the forum gets any use, I'm sure someone with the web skill, time, interest and spare change necessary to manage such a site will pick up the gauntlet and give it a proper home. I catch occasional flack for not allowing adult content on my forum, too. The flack you're catching is much nicer than some I've caught... but, you shouldn't be catching it, at all. :)

Melhi: I've noticed it takes a lot of time and patience to build up a successful Yahoo group. I haven't personally done it, but I've observed plenty of ones that don't get a very strong following. You really need a large amount of material to get people interested in order to build some critical mass. I know amiright took about a year before I started to have parodies every single day to review. The first 6 months had days where 2 or 3 parodies were posted a day.
Melhi - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
Well, I didn't exactly start from scratch. I took over an existing fan-club forum that had fallen apart, back in early 99. It had cycled through countless flame wars, mass exodus, entirely-off-topic periods and troll antics since its creation in late 94 or early 95.. There wasn't much left to take over, so I didn't have anything to lose. When I announced the drastic changes that would take effect on relaunch, there was a pretty vocal backlash among the few remaining members and I was told it wouldn't last the year, if it lasted a month and that it would certainly never reach 100 members.

I think I started out with around 50 members, (about half transferred over from the final subscribership and about half were returning "refugees") the first day and it's been growing at varying rates, ever since. We have a steady turn-over, but we've yet to cycle through even a brief downward trend in subscriptions, (although I've been expecting it to happen, any time, since day one) and we've grown to around 450 members, so far... approximately 50% bigger than its peak size under previous ownership. Mind you, this is without my actively promoting the forum. Not too shabby considering that I'm almost 5 years into something that wasn't supposed to last a year if it lasted a month, eh? :) But, I have to say that it helps a lot that I have great members and a fantastic mod staff.

...and it probably goes without saying, but I've been very impressed with how smoothly your forums operate. You have a very good sense of what will work for your forums and what won't.
Melhi - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
Chucky, if I misunderstood and you were referring to the new forum, if it generates any interest, at all, my administrative role will be as an absentee slumlord. :)
ChuckyG - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
yes, I was referring to the new forum. Absentee slumlord is kind of what I've been doing with whatfreaks, which is why that site never really caught on. It sounds like you've had all the pain of running a forum, and only a little bit of the joy. I commend you though for cleaning up someone else's mess though, online battles are usually the fiercest because the stakes are so small >grin<.
Melhi - December 12, 2003 - Report this comment
Nah, I get a lot of joy out of it. The pain has been very, very rare during my ownership, else I would have deleted the forum years ago.. :) Glad to hear that I'll be slumlording an empty back-room with the continuation of Whatfreaks, sorry to hear how it came about, though. :)

if I can't write clean songs with a "sexy " part in them, I'll have to go back to whatfreaks for my sexual release.. whatever happened to implied and rhetorical impulse writing chucky? what will I write about other than my passion for a threesome, transvestites, and beastiality? how am I supposed to be funny now?? just wondering??

The pretty nurse is nice and so I winked her
She gets her own back, turning me around
Then I feel a glove probing my sphincter
And here is me, caught with my trousers down...

And burrow into Doctor's prostate gland
