Original Song Title:

"Trees"

Original Performer:

Joyce Kilmer

Parody Song Title:

"Trees"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

This is a poem
I think that I shall never see
A dog that does not like a tree

A tree's their hydrant passified
A place to lift their leg beside

The tree that shades us in the park
Dogs relate to, is it the bark?

Tho' trees have leaves, can't move away
They must stand there and let dogs spray

No means to fight or to resist
Gain no respect, a place dog's pissed

Parodies, write fools, like me
But cats and dogs can diss a tree

My dogs have all been indifferent to hydrants, trees, and other favored targets of micturation. But then all my dogs have been b****es. :-)

Reminds me of an old Shelly Berman bit about a guy who's in the presence of someone who's his intellectual superior and first displays his ignorance of the poem, then says of Joyce Kilmer: "Who was she?"

As someone who often drops off his mail at the nearby Joyce Kilmer Post Office and lives less than a mile from Joyce Kilmer Road (where some people walk their dogs), I hereby approve your poetic dog license.

If it wern't for dogs what would trees do? They keep the ants and varments away. If you have a fruit tree tell your neighbor to let her dog do it on your tree - or get a dog.
