The Lyrics

This song is also not about anatomy. For those unfamiliar with baseball, a pitch outside of the strike zone is called a "ball". If four balls are thrown to any one batter, the hitter is awarded a base. For the true baseball fans, this is the sad story of a closer who can't get the ball over the plate...a relief pitcher's worst nightmare. ;D

Two outs - last of the ninth inning.
I've come in to close out the game.
I find that my curveball's not spinning.
I've no clue just what is to blame.

Four balls - four pitches.
Is my arm cursed?
Can't feel the stitches.
Now there's a man on first.

Vainly I seek the location
The catcher's glove plainly has shown.
But to my great consternation
Here's four straight outside the strike zone.

Four balls not breaking,
Can't find the place.
My nerves are shaking.
I've now two man on base.

I wonder who I am fooling.
Four more miss - I'm bowing in shame.
Here comes my manager pulling
My big sorry butt from the game.

Four balls three straight times.
Bases now full.
Blown saves are high crimes.
What I just did ain't cool.

Yesterday I posted "Two Balls". Today I submitted "Four Balls". Perhaps I have an unintentional series going here. I could write one called "Three Balls" about pawn shops. ;D

You are a great humorous "relief" pitcher! Good story, but "man" in line 12 should be "men" (can't women play?). I vote 5s to offset the strike-out.

Ball five. You know what Yakov Smirnoff said when he was introduced to baseball? "Four balls and you walk? When you have four balls, you walk proud!"

Sounds like Aroldis Chapman when he was in his bad streak. Well written - too bad about the one-bombers today.

Double the balls - double the fun! (And now that sentence just looks SO different what I actually meant..!) Anyway... I won't pretend to understand the baseball terminology (I'd fail) - but this is so well written I can appreciate it without needing to. Smart, funny and perfectly paced - 555.

I think everyone has enough knowledge of baseball/softball to know what's going down here. This is a, how do you Americans say, a triple play homer to be proud of.

Thanks all. To the despair of the "Artistry", I'll counter all your one bombs with fives. How they hate me for it, but fair is fair. ;D
