The Lyrics

Permit me a moment of insanity. For pacing purposes 115 should be read "one-fifteen".
I drive my car at 115
The speed that I love to careen
And menace the roads and streets for miles
While leaving wreckage by the pile
My sanity, it leaves the room
When that V-12 fills me with glee
I hit the road and off I zoom
At 115 I feel so free

Pedestrians are so terrified
When they see me they run and hide
Desperately they shout and scream
When I drive right off the street
Some say I'm a meth crazed teen
And some say I'm just mad and mean
But no one man can clearly see
The nutcase that drives at 115

So remember you who saw the way
I trashed your town and peeled away
My reckless driving will burn in notority
Your deep fear eyes will always know
It doesn't faze me the least bit though
I'm in my own world at 115

(sounds of engine roaring, cars honking, people cursing, police sirens)

To those that were on the highway
I ran them off and drove away
They called me names I n'er been called
As their cars did smoke and stall
I was long gone and far away
They're all as slow as yesterday
My gas I pumped and took for free
It's just routine for nuts like me

I play chicken when someone dares
I leave them all with snow white hair
The cops harass me on the phone
Resenting all the fun I've known
They call and say - I shouldn't flee
They send their ranks right after me
And the squad car count's at seventeen

Nice.

Having tried to figure this rather complex song out on a guitar I really do say wow to your parody. It hits all the buttons, except maybe for the hoped-for final scene of exploding plastic, tumbling cars, and firemen with spoons putting what is left of the driver into Tupperware. Such delicious wickedness must be punished to satisfy the law-abiding who only dream of 115s. A solid parody can stand alone, as good or better than the original. Yours (except for the retribution scene) does. Go ahead. Write it! Fear not. That which you are imagining is not happening. Or so they say.

Leo: Thanks. The Pomfret: Thanks for reading and for the nuggets of humor.

We have thought equipping our new car with a nautical speedometer. I would like to see the copper's face when my hubby explains him him "Yes, Sir, I made hundred and twenty, just as the speed limit says". [Only just 120 knots, not 120 klicks per hour.] We didn't dare to do faster on our old Elk than 150 km/h - American cars tend to have quite loose suspension.
Rex - April 18, 2005 - Report this comment
You should come to Texas, where the minimum speed is 115.
Scathe - April 18, 2005 - Report this comment
Susanna: Very interesting, but I'm afraid all I know is miles per hour as far as speeds. Rex: Thanks for the war... I mean invitation.
Susanna Viljanen - April 19, 2005 - Report this comment
Scathe: The general speed limit on motorways in Finland is 120 km/h. That equals 75 mph or 65 knots. 115 mph is 185 km/h, enough to get here your driver's licence confiscated. But doing 120 knots would be 222 km/h or 138 mph - the copper would most likely ask for your pilot's licence, as happened to one of our friends...

( SOTM ) DRTOS well enough to vote but funny.

(SOTM)Don't know this song well enough to say much about it. But "My reckless driving will burn in notority" ["noteriety", right?] might have been funnier with a line like "The town will burn my car in effigy" or "My reckless driving will live in infamy".

(SOTM) DKTOS, but I have access to it, so I'll listen before voting. Good read.

(SOTM) DKTOS, but fun to read. Sounds like a DC driver (one that's not stuck in gridlock)

(SOTM) I got stopped once and the cop said that he had clocked me at 95 miles per hour. I told him that was impossible because I had not yet even been out for an hour. Good write and I KTOS. Well done.

I played the original as I read along, and I gotta say it's an interesting juxtaposition: your speed-demon lyrics with the achingly soft, "slow as yesterday" music. Some nice lyrical touches here too, particularly "meth-crazed teen" and "I leave them all with snow-white hair."
Stuart McArthur - May 28, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) fine job, Scathe - the nod to the OS in your last line was a clever touch, too - 555

Damn, DKTOS. Reads very smoothly and is consistently clever throughout, though. If you ever get cornered, remember to go out like Thelma and Louise. My fave bit occured rather early:

My sanity, it leaves the room
When that V-12 fills me with glee
I hit the road and off I zoom
At 115 I feel so free

Don't know how I missed this one the first time around. Must've gone by too fast. Take five points off your license and put 'em on this song.

(WILDCARD) Brilliant imagery, still a well written work.

(WILDCARD) Sounds like Spaff's 'You Made Me Drive' and Weird Al's 'She Drives Like Crazy'. All of them are about bad driving habits. Which is why I like this parody.
John Jenkins - February 16, 2006 - Report this comment
I didn't play the original as I read, but I have to echo everything else that Spaff wrote. There is a lot of humor in this parody and much of it derives from the contrast in attitudes between the protagonists of the parody and the original song.
Phil Alexander - February 18, 2006 - Report this comment
Found the OS: I'll go with Spaff's comment and update mine to say that it's good not knowing the OS, but it gets an extra level of humour from the music...
Stuart McArthur - February 18, 2006 - Report this comment
(WILD) see above - this OS sort of demands a melancholy tone, doesn't it? - I like it
Red Ant - February 19, 2006 - Report this comment
(WILD) I d/l not one but 2 versions of this song (the first was only a 320 kb file, horrible quality). Maybe it's just me, but I got lost in the third verse. Still very funny though.
Spaff.com - February 20, 2006 - Report this comment
I don't know which I like better: your parody or getting name-checked in three consecutive comments. Heh heh. Someone oughta do a speed-metal cover of the original and/or your version. That would RULE. Fave line this go-round: "I ran them off and drove away." I still dig it.
Mikey Squirrel - February 25, 2006 - Report this comment
WILD- Up here in Canuck-ville, 115 is nothing, considering we go by kilometers. Gotta love those speed-demon songs! Great job!
