Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

On the Holiest night of the year, the Senate prepares to vote for the president's health care bill. Is this a well-planned photo op or a gratuitous insult? ;D

They'll pass health care on Christmas Eve,
A planned photo op I believe.
Obama's won, it's now begun -
He's remaking the U.S.A.

His agenda has come to pass,
He'll tightly squeeze the middle class.
The bill's a mess, but on he'll press -
He's remaking the U.S.A.

The Senate caved to O.'s deadlines
And he'll have his flashy headlines.
More trillions spent, more government -
He's remaking the U.S.A.

Why shouldn't people have some fears
For coverage won't start for four years?
His stuff in place none can erase -
He's remaking the U.S.A.

So when you wake on Christmas Day
More freedom has been stripped away.
Don't think it strange, it's "Hope And Change" -
He's remaking the U.S.A.

BTW, if I am wrong then I will be the first to admit it. ;D

Provocative ribbing! But, really, what's another trillion (or dodeca-hepta-quadrillion for that matter) at this point?!

I'm all for this government healthcare plan, since I have no health insurance and will likely get a good deal on government-option healthcare. Great job, and 5s.

Glad to see all the DC folks pitching in for the good of the country - especially the guy from Nebraska, who got his state and companies to make out like bandits - this ought to keep the deficit down.

Great take on healthcare, OMR! Here's a healthcare coverage of $555!

Think you're right on-target with the "photo op" suspicion... Is it 2012 yet? ;)

So 47 million americans will get the gift of health care safety, what better day do you suggest? ;-)

In my country (Sweden) 100 % of the population has health care for the cost of like 8-9 % of the gross national income, last figure I heard for the US was that 80 % had it for a total cost of like 14-15 % of the gross national income, I figure the main reason the christian right wing is against it most be that abortion costs may end up on taxpayer bills, not the overall economy of it in the first place.

Merry Christmas all. :)

@ Peter Andersson: Careful there, Peter... While I'm sure it is tempting, from your secure Scandinavian perch, to comment blithely on such subjects, the fact is that you are there, not here. Rest assured that plenty of Americans beyond the "Christian right wing" are opposed to the proposed health care bill, and for a variety of reasons. Cheers.

Your spoofing is still in fine health, $555 co-pay.

A few metrical hiccups (phoTO op, REmakING, AgendA, deadLINES, flashY headLINES) downrate this to 354. Did you leave that green space for HWL's final two stanzas? If so, I offer these, like his: And in despair I bowed my head; / "There's now no place on Earth," I said, / "Where state is weak and men free speak, / But there's no dearth of willing men." / / Repeal death knells from proud elite. / We shall not dread, nor sound retreat. / The Left shall fail, the Right prevail; / This place on Earth should thrill again.
