The Lyrics

I imagine everyone knows The Tonight Show will move to New York in 2014, and Jimmy Fallon takes over for Jay Leno
Goodbye Jay, had your day,
Here comes Jimmy
Changin' date, that old age fate,
It's a gimme
Like your plan with Conan,
Feel the right toe..
Son of a gun, now, you're all done
On Tonight Show...

Jim-bo hired, a youthful guy
No gray hair, chin, Jumbo
New "Tonight" it's gonna be
Catered for the young-o
Gone, you are, drive your cars,
Airline flight-oh
Son of a gun, New York just won
The Tonight Show

Weeks ago, winds did blow
The talk was buzzin'
Rumored worms, now confirms
Your out, cousin..
No more smiles, crowd in aisles,
Shakes, high-five-oh
Son of a gun, your run's all done
On Tonight Show

Jim-bo hired, a youthful guy
No gray hair, chin, Jumbo
The "Tonight Show's" gonna be
Catered for the young-oh
Gone, you are, drive your cars,
Airline flight-oh
Son of a gun, old New York won
The Tonight Show

(Instrumental exit music)

Jay, you're tired, - those years flew by
Sittin' on your bum-bo
Millions made, now sunsets fade
Make your exit humble
Rest, old Star, stand-up Czar,
Dim the light low
Let old New York - pop chamgane's cork
On Tonight Show

Son of a gun, old New York won
The Tonight Show

4th line from bottom...6th word...supposed to be, "Champagne"...don't know how I garbled it that badly..

Nice one all round, Airfarce - my pick of the day (also the only OS I know), though I'm not so familiar with the hosts. Different countries have their own evening variety talk shows so it's never been exported, ditto 'Saturday Night Live'. I wasn't even familiar with Johnny Carson till recently.

A few syllable glitches - the second line of the second verse especially threw me -4 sylls vs 6? The 'champagne' typo was easily sorted, but have to take you a notch down for technique/pacing. The rhyme phonetic matching made up for it though.

For some years I'd been listening to Hank Williams Jr's covers of his father's songs and thinking 'What's the big deal?' When I finally heard the original, with the Drifting Cowboys, it was a revelation. I understood why he's still the most revered artist in country music.

Thanks, LL...yes, I'll admit there are a few syllable glibs...I wrote it in kind of a hurry last night...yes, Hank's music was beautiful simplicity...much of it underrated by non-country listeners...better received when artists like Ray Charles recorded quite a few.
