Original Song Title:

"Beverly Hillbillies Themesong"

Original Performer:

Guy with a Banjo

Parody Song Title:

"Really Old Mariner"

Parody Written by:

Megan Ann Miller

The Lyrics

This song is about the poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Come listen to my story 'bout a Mariner
Look in his eyes and you will not wish to stir
Late one day they were stranded in some ice
When out of the fog came an omen real nice
Bird, that is...white bird...albatross
Well, the next thing you know, that bird's around his neck
Helmsman said, "We'll die upon the deck!"
He said, "'fore you shot that bird you should've stopped to think,
'Cause there's water all around but there's not a drop to drink."
Lived, he did...swimmin' snakes...seraph band
Ya'll vote nice now, ya hear?

Good story, I'll have to agree with Rick. In parody should use all the verses. A very good attept.

Are there any other verses?

Not in the theme as shown on TV, but you can add as many as you want. Check out some other parodies of "Beverly Hillbillies" and you'll see. By the way, the original performer is not "Guy with a Banjo"; I think it's Paul Henning.

Hey, I liked this!

The songwriter (and copyright owner) is Paul Henning but I don't believe he was the "performer". I believe the original TV theme song has three verses for the intro of the show and then the "Well now it's time to say goodbye to . . ." as the closing for the show. But what the hell do I know?
