The Lyrics

Those of you who've had to put up with a British car will understand this fine song from the "HMS Pitiful", or "The Lass Who Loathed Her Rover".
A British car is a money hole
And creaks like a wooden cart
This moldy rolling cyst will be ready to resist
Any early morning start

Its engine clanks and its lights won't work
Emits one flame, then just plays the berk*
Its fluids have leaked and it needs a tow
And its oil pan has tried another knock-out blow

Its life will end via engine fire
Your head with shame be hung
You always will look down with a disappointed frown
On this four-wheeled piece of dung

Its horn may beep (then its wiring shorts)
Its fenders rust and it *may* run (forced)
Your lights then flash, people think you're rude
And give you lots of single-fingered hand salutes
And loud horn toots, and angry moods, and throwing food...

* berk: a stupid person

You won't win many British fans with this one, Jockey- they're proud of their nearly-extinct car industry. I, however, though it was jolly humorous. 555

I'm reminded of the opening of "Four Weddings and a Funeral," where Charlie's car won't start, and Scarlett's will only go 40 miles an hour, and then watching her car slowly chugging down the freeway... I mean, the motorway.

I especially liked the "single-finger hand salutes". 555

Just found this (and your excellent MG parody as well)... top notch work, seems like a perfect match to the tone of the original... you seem to have unusually deep insight into your subject...

I can say that I've lived this parody, and except for possibly an Aston Martin, a restored Riley Elf (luxury car based on a Mini) or a Rolls Royce, I'm done with British cars after having the experience of owning a highly unreliable and unsafe 1970 Austin American. Here are some 5s to keep the "Prince of Darkness" at bay.
