Song Parodies -> "To All My Friends At AmIRight, I'd Like To Show My Gratitude"

Original Song Title:

"I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General"

Original Performer:

Gilbert & Sullivan

Parody Song Title:

"To All My Friends At AmIRight, I'd Like To Show My Gratitude"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

Main inclusion criterion was based on the same principle as this one: This is *everyone* (with a recognizable nick) who had commented on any of TT's own parodies that were posted in July and August of this year, as of when this was written.

Also added a few deserving authors and much-welcomed commenters who seem to have left us -- pity, but still a shout-out. Plus a couple of *very* long-time mutual supporters from "the old days": one who's been long gone, but promised to return "with a vengeance" some day, and another who's still here, but deserves it for being supportive since TT's early days here.

To all my friends at AmIRight, I'd like to show my gratitude
Especially 'cause Tommy T. has sometimes copped an attitude
Like writing write about the height of scoring-on-his-SAT etude
Thanks, ChuckyG, for giving me a little "lusty" latitude

To Barry, John; in numbers, One, but also, widely read is he
To Hammond, Ann, who'll never pan; a "he he": comment said, does she
McWilliams, Pat, a phan so phat, from state not "blue" but "red" is he

[pause, then continue, speaking]
Hmm, how to thank my *first* collaborator and also a very loyal fan? ... Got it!

[resume singing]
To TJC, such wit is he; Star Trek:a five year "Oeddissy"

(A Trekkie, he, but not TT; regret: can't grok yer Shatner, Dude!)
(Sincerely meant: for times we spent collabing; not a platitude)
To Kristof R., a shining star, who kindly tips his hat to "rude"   [1]

To WarrenB, from South is he; fine comments will he draw in drawl
To Old Man Ribber, he'll delibber puns fantastic, awe'll in all
I guess Burbank could make one cranky; still, 2Eagle, "doll", I call
And Jenkins, John, I lean upon: support, songs econawmicawl

In short, appreciating all, I wrote this song and had a ball
It's been fun: songs, creating all; I'm glad you found compatible

At Fiddlegirl, I love to hurl, as far as I can throw, my wit
For CupCakesSmall (or what name, call), known also: UnKnownVo, a bit
Chris-tie Marie, consistently: enthusiasm: no, won't quit
To Airfarcewon, who's "plane-"ly fun; you know he'll always go for "it"

To Bilbopooh, thanks will go: you, though nickname seemed mysterious
My man, Matthias, without bias: comments fun, but serious
Writes Guy DiRito, my "Don Vito": mockeries mobster-ious

[pause, then continue, speaking]
Need something special for another entusiastic commenter and great writer .... Got it!

[resume singing]
And Scotti, Mark, whose brilliant spark: songs, comments: laughs, delirious!

Is TT "touched"? It's touching, much, and thrill to see one reach a fan
Are Tommy's tactics too didactic? Cool it be, to teach a fan
Oft: disagree with Michael P., but loves, TT, free speech for Man

There's no one "Sweder" than our Peter Scandinavi-Andersson
Ms. Kilgore, An-dria's a fan; long red locks: take a gander, Son
And Andy Primus: First and "finust": never had a grander one
Though once called me a "plagiarist", mind, great: Phil Alexander's one

In short, here's what I offer you: Max Power: thanks, I proffer you
"Right": Mitchel, Barry: niche'll carry; "fil dank", Mason R., for you

You're really swell: Adag'io (belle); I hope: things looking bright for you
Where's Tim 1k? You've gone away! Is AmI- just not -Right for you?
And metaphors-bwithu scores; was writing not delight for you?
Blackjack 2-1: On winning run? Hope good card-count's in sight for you!

McArthur, Stu: Austrialian who T. knew wit wouldn't fail ya, Mate!
Of few, he's one among the throng: grokked song's 'bout genitalia date
S., Jonathan is so the man, my pleasure here to hail ya, great!

[pause, then continue, speaking]
How to praise *everyone* enough? ... Got it!

[resume singing]
To all and singu-lar, this jingle: you, our Holy Grail, ya rate!

Yo, Dude! Conclude this long-etude; you've taxed our patience long enough   [2]
So gauche: atrociously verbocious; Overdose-ious? Strong enough!
No antidote for bilious bloat; somebody bong the gong: "Enough!"

It sometimes seems this writer dreams up stuff a bit lascivious
Some readers' feelings sent a-reeling; no, he's not oblivious
Though can't be cured, please rest assured: sincere: his thanks, not frivious
Although a jerk, his wish: this work will find his fans forgivious

In short: though indisputable: TT's at times inscrutable,
His love for you's immutable, and hopes this trib's found suitable

[A reader approaches the turtle soloist, and asks:]
Is there any chance that you could just quietly crawl away?

[The Admin turns to the turtle, and says:]
Mydas! Pest, Testudinata! Still, you stay!   [3]

[Do *not* repeat the third verse faster than originally;
in fact, don't repeat anything at all.
Enough is enough, already!]

[1] "rude", as used in the comment linked, is either en-BR or en-JAP for "lewd". ;-)

[2] "long-etude" was a typically-turtillianly-obscure ref to "longitude", which was an extremely distant "callback", as comedians say. to "latitude" in Verse 1, line 4.
Such remote connections are noticed -- and created -- only by either the shrewdest of sleuths or the certifiably paranoid.
"There's a thin line between genius and insanity." Your call, folks. (wink)

[3] "Testudinata" - an order of reptiles which includes the turtles and tortoises
"Mydas" - species name of the green sea turtle, Chelonia Mydas

You heard The Man -- looks like yer stuck, folks. ;)

I'm happy that I caught this one seeing that I was referenced in it. Are you really going to do 300 parodies of this song. I can see John A Barry doing 300 of Screaming Jay Hawkins cause the song is short but doing 300 versions of this epic song might be kinda tough. Anyways great tune here.

Amazing production of fans and friends introduction...

The daily posts on amIright I'll try to be more wary at. / Some day l'lI know precisely what is meant by scoring-on-his-SAT. (I missed it in May 2009.) 555

TT - Wow! The roster immoralized...er, immorTTalized! This is a delightful frolick, a true "roll" in the "HEY!". A favor - when you respond, please repeat the titles of the amiright sacred seven. I know American Pie, Edmond Fitzgerald, Supercal etc., and Major General. What are the other three? Once again, you've climbed Everest...not a whole hell of a lot going on up there, eh? ;D

Everything was very well structured and put together. For some people its not always easy to mention specific people in songs but its always good when gratitude is expressed in songs. In fact songs and music make expressing whatever your feelings, experiences and beliefs are a lot more exciting I feel. Great work.

Excellent job... saw my mention, everyone was described well, and I'll add that my hair is even longer and curlier but just as bright red than it was in the photo I sent you and that AFW is indeed "plane" funny (as are you). 5s, and thanks for the gratitude!

We've never met, but you must have surmised from some of my lyrics that I'm phat. I guess that's because I have trouble abstaining from phood. A phine parody, and thanks for including me. Security code is 34R, a size I haven't seen in about 25 years.

That was quite an effort. I think Tom Lehrer singing the elements is a lot more simple.

I liked every single line! (But especially the one dedicated to Peter. Cute.) :)

Thanks for the nod, Tribute Turtle!! I'm deeply touched as always! Loved all those puns and catchphrases for this group tribute! It's also very generous to write this satire as well. You sure touched our hearts, I can tell you that. Here's another Major General 5's and I'm telling you, you'll get more of them for each spoof of the OS' you write! :)

Matthias: The outtro of the MG to which you're referring answers that, but I can tell you that I have two more already at least half-done. (One came to me last night and was written almost ad-lib.) They should post next Tuesday and Wednesday, I think. (I long ago tore off all the Mondays on every calendar I've ever had - life is sooo much better that way! -- actually, it's just usually a slammed-at-work day -- thought it was for everyone -- and I don't like to post if I don't think that there's some *reasonable* chance that I'll be able to reply to comments and read others' songs.) ... I'll just keep writing them as they come to me, without any specific number in mind. Thanks for v/c.

AFW: Thanks!

Barry J. Mitchel: Did you read the parody that was linked on the SAT-line? It answers that question - um, you *are* familiar with the SAT, right? Or not? From your political parodies, I've always assumed that you're US-based, but please correct me if not. Thanks for MG-scanning comment and the vote.

Old Man Ribber: The views are breathtaking - can't get enough of 'em! ... You've hit a nerve re: the Big 7, because every time I think I've done them all, the list changes. :-( AFAIK (as far as I know), the current others, and TT's spins, are:

"Blinded By The Light"
(TT: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/manfredmannsearthband7.shtml - very "spicy", not to everyone's taste, so those who don't care for the saucy stuff, don't go there. But it's approaching 700 page hits, and growing continually, so there's a bunch of very "spicy" readers out there!)

"Bohemian Rhapsody", which I'd never heard of, only Gershwin's "Hungarian Rhapsodies". Came out about as well as one would expect (i. e., not so great), since I didn't care to listen to what seemed like a stupid OS by a band I'd never heard of, either.
http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/queen443.shtml

And the sole remaining, I THINK, and it had BETTER be, cause I ain't doin' no mo! -- "Be Our Guest" -- also DKTOS, DK the movie it came from, etc. It's on my list to "get it over with", with several title switches in mind, and that could happen next week, if these Major-Generals would quit intruding their way into the pea-brain. Thanks for v/c!

Nick Zeman: Not my place to decide such a thing, but long-time (and long-gone) veteran AmIWriter "Cat" once called TT "King of Tributes". Quality is for others to judge, but TT probably has written more tribs to individuals, and probably groups, than any other writer here. (Anyone know otherwise? Please say so -- "really". ) ... A trademark on the individual tribs is including references to the subject's own parodies, with excerpts or paraphrases, and linking to them. Here's one where TT worked in *every single song" that the subject had posted at the time:
http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/gilbertsullivan97.shtml
The most recent previous group trib, and the most monstrous ever, surely (more than 200 writers tribbed:
http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/bonnietyler44.shtml
Guess this writer doesn't have the problem you described. :-D .. Thanks for v/c.

Andria: You're welcome, and thank *you*! (You got AFW's nick-pun? I'm impressed! ;)

Patrick: Sorry, "phat" is younger-generation slang (of which I'm not a part), originally an acronym for "Pretty Hot And Tempting", then just came to mean, "cool" "awesome", etc. I would never publish a remark about someone being overweight even if I knew them, and I'm sorry that you got that impression. Thanks for v/c.

2Eagle: Everyone sets their own standards, so I guess simple people stick to simple things, and me, I like a challenge. But this really wasn't all that hard -- sorta comes naturally. It's a gift (or a curse, in some people's opinions, possibly yours ;) .... If you want to see "complicated and challenging", go where Nick Z was pointed, in which you are also plugged, and never responded:
http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/bonnietyler44.shtml
Thanks for v/c

Fiddlegirl: Once again, you've hit the author's favve, too! How do you do that? It's ... it's almost like we know each other's minds! ..... Thanks for v/c. xoxo MUAH!

Christie Marie M: No writer could ask for anything more than to touch his readers' hearts -- as your kind comment here (and others) has done for mine. Thank you!

I read and write when words take flight to balance out our lack of sun
Keeh-one-chyd was a pun for fun I once made up when on the run

Frankly freaking fan'tastic 'franchise' this fine Friday, TT--and loved my lil' LOL of yer libretto! That tune, more invasive than 'devil's crabgrass', must be burrowed in yer brain by now!
Still can't believe you've shoehorned in *so many* people--employin' parsimony of parse'ness and perfect pacing compaction i guess! In fairness, as every one of us is an affirmed AIRhead--we do tend to compact rather well!
Another Major achievement for the at times testy, the often Testudinata and the ever testosterosa Tommy Turtle!

Peter Scandinavi-Andersson: Sounds like a good way to combat SAD! (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Great MG-spin-off comment; I'm afraid I'm hoarding my MG-metered lines for the next two versions, so replying in (yawn) prose. Thanks for v/c! TJC: No, I'm not a redhead -- oops, you said "testosterosa". Read that as "testa rossa", a model of Ferrari (their national racing color is red, as are a lot of Ferraris - maybe some day I'll get to park one! ;)

I'd have shoehorned more in if there were more commenters - ran out of names (according to the criteria) with about a fourth of the song left. Thanks for kind words, even for the Turtle's "testys" (heh!)
