The Lyrics

Major General John Small: http://www.84th.com/website/pics/pic_main.htm ... "Major General John Small served with the 21st in America until 1775 when he received an unofficial commission from General Gage to raise the Young Royal Highlanders at his own expense which was later amalgamated into the Royal Highland Emigrants (84th Regiment of Foot). Small spent the greatest part of his time in New York on staff duty. While in New York, Small participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill. He commanded a composite brigade and three times stormed the hill leading his men from in front. He was immortalized by Trumbull who painted Small arresting the bayonet of a British grenadier who was about to bayonet a wounded man."
I might just be descended from a Scottish Major-General
I've information from-a-web-site's di-gi-tal H-T-M-L
My father's side's from England, my ancestors Congregational
They fled to Maine so long ago in ways so fugitivical

I'm not so well acquainted, though, with matters gen'ological
I understand a little, but I'm not too intellectual
About genomial theory I'm int'rested but so confused
With many fearful lacks about the size of my ancestors' shoes

With many fearful lacks about the size of his ancestors' shoes
With many fearful lacks about the size of his ancestors' shoes
With many fearful lacks about the size of his ancestors' shoes

I barely got through integral and differential calculus
My cast-mates like to joke about the film "Being John Malkulus"
They joke that in my head there lives a crowd of clowns hysterical
Perhaps because my ancestor's an in-bred Major General

They joke that in his head there lives a crowd of clowns hysterical
Perhaps because his ancestor's an in-bred Major General

I love the Python Montyness, King Arthur's Holy Grail crusade
I know the lines from many shows that Cleese, Idle, and Palin made
I quote in English accent all the lines of their dead parrot play
While lumberjacking in my mind I sing to Mounties "I'm okay!"

I can write uncensored parodies of many show tune symphonies
I throw a joking chorus in that could be sung by chimpanzees
Then I can hum a fugue of which I've heard the music-lyric mix
And whistle all the airs from Sev-en-teen-Hun-dred-Se-ven-ty-Six

And whistle all the airs from Sev-en-teen-Hun-dred-Se-ven-ty-Six
And whistle all the airs from Sev-en-teen-Hun-dred-Se-ven-ty-Six
And whistle all the airs from Sev-en-teen-Hun-dred-Se-ven-ty-Six

Then I can write a stupid song in electronic cuneiform
And tell you ev'ry detail of Janet's mal-functioned uniform
In short, in matters Three-Stoogical, Larry, Moe, and Curlial
I seem to be descended from a wacky Major-General

In short, in matters Three-Stoogical, Larry, Moe, and Curlial
He seems to be descended from a wacky Major-General

In fact, since I know what is meant by "Morpheus" and "Trinity"
Since I can tell at sight when Agent Smith's in the vicinity
Since such affairs as science fiction draw me to the movie flicks
You know I know precisely what is meant by the words "THE MATRIX"

When I have learnt what progress has been made in modern parody
When I know more of lyrics than a writer with a malady
In short, when I've a smattering of stupid musicality
You'll say that ancient Major-General must have been quite crazy

You'll say that ancient Major-General must have been quite crazy
You'll say that ancient Major-General must have been quite crazy
You'll say that ancient Major-General must have been quite crazy

For my silly crazy knowledge, though I'm plucky and adventury
Has only been brought down to the beginning of this century
But still, in matters scotch-drinkable, Johnnie Walker Black-La-bel,
I feel like the descendant of a Scottish Major-General

But still, in matters scotch-drinkable, Johnnie Walker Black-La-bel,
He feels like the descendant of a Scottish Major-General

I just finished a piano track of this song for another Amirighter. I could modify it and send it to you if you want and have a way to slap your vocal on it it and post.

Thanks Jack!

Thanks, Rick - yes, please, go ahead and send it to me - I do have a way to mix it with my vocals.....very rudimentary, but I think I can do it.

This is brilliant. A perfect match to the complex rhythms and lyrics of G&S.

There are two versions of this song on this site. There is the original from "The Pirates Of Penzance", which is the one Johnny and Phil and I have done, and there is Tom Lehrer's "Elements", which is shorter and does away with the repeat choruses. Just clearing that up.

I'm in the process of recording this as "Media Celebrity" with Mari. After I post it, I'll send you the same track in your key, minus vocals, and you can have at it. If you follow the original, there should be two extra syllables on the third repeat of the chorus. (ancestor's giant? shoes) You'll see when ours comes out.

OK, Rick, thanks very much.

I think this my third time reading a "Major General" parody. Let me say all were very good, but I have to say your version has to be my favorite. Anybody who can manage to put Monty Python, The Three Stooges, and The Matrix together in a funny, but coherent fashion has to be a bloody genius in my opinion. My only question is, did your votes get deleted somehow? I find it hard to believe that this song has only received one set of fives. Well sir, I shall add my set of fives just the same.

Och, lad, ye canna change th' laws o' physics, but ye can make 'em laugh from th' Captain to th' potato-peelers belowdecks!
