The Lyrics

Another Christmas parody - and another animal parody too. This one is inspired by finding out that reindeers like to eat magic mushrooms (the Fly Agaric, actually) because it makes them jump and mince about on a psychodelic mega-trip - and this is believed to be how the legend of santa's 'flying' reindeer was born. (NOTE: Although this particular 'shroom gives reindeers a groovy Christmas high, it's apparently lethal to humans - in other words, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, KIDS! There, that's the H&S bit over...)

I wrote it to fit this version of the original song.

Names like Dancer and Prancer are not accidental
So called ‘cause sometimes we act a bit mental
We’re magic you see…
Or what could the real reason be..?

Rudolph’s a revved-up reindeer
What’s he putting up his nose?
Something has got him sorted
Wonder where he gets his dose?
All of us other reindeers
Wish that we could feel the same
Tell us your secret, Rudolph
Wanna get in on your game!

Get your laughing gear round these
Rudolph seems to say
Magic ‘shrooms make tasty snacks
Gets you hyped up to the max

And how us reindeers love them
Now you know the reason why
Rudolph’s a revved-up reindeer
He’s not flying he’s just high!

**funky instrumental bit**

Rudolph’s revved up the reindeers
Watch us as we skip and bounce
Having a damn good Christmas
They say it’s the thought that counts
Mustn’t be thought insane deers
Make our status legend’ry
Tell kids we’re magic reindeers
Sounds a little more P.C!

Get our kicks from fungi fix
What would Santa say?
Wouldn’t be at all surprised
If we all got breathalysed

But all us reindeers love them
Maybe it should be condoned
Good stuff you can’t rein in, deer…
Flying high because we’re stoned!

So, that's how they visit every house in one night - very funny.

Santa will be dropping extra toys in Colorado while the kids in Wyoming, Kansas, and New Mexico go without.

What a winner, shines like beacon - not mushroom for improvement here (groan). Great concept. I like your smooth natural use of vernacular: 'Get your laughing gear round these'. 555

At first I figured Rudolph got his red nose from drinking; later decided it was cocaine (explains Timmy's observation). Thanks for cluing us in on the truth. Hilarious all the way through. 555

Being an aficionado of the TV series "Breaking Bad" (you're in UK, correct? Do you get that series? -- about the methamphetamine trade), I recently observed to a friend that they could lisp, and wish each other "Merry Chrithmeth". -- then ran that into a contraction, "Merry Cryst'meth", or an elision, "Merry Cryst'lMeth". This is why I don't have very many friends. ;-D

Thanks so much for all the comments - always very appreciated :^)

@TT: I've heard of 'Breaking Bad' - but only through YouTube, as I'm not sure if we get it on tv in the UK yet. I would think 'Merry Cryst'lMeth' is a perfectly acceptable greeting - as long as that's not what you're giving them as their Christmas pressie as well, I guess... ;^)

I would think that if you do greet someone that way, they are very much going to expect it as the gift!

It's an intense and well-written drama with strong human elements, and has won or been nominated for many awards. Here, our public libraries have the DVDs available for checkout (long waiting list for the most recent one), or perhaps you can find other places to watch online.

@TT: Ah, well, that's where I'd fall down, y'see... no idea where to get the stuff. And Ferroro Rocher instead could only be a disappointment :^)
