The Lyrics

When I find a gem on the riverbank, I polish it and display it. TOS was the obvious vehicle.
Here we all work, song revisions snippy.
Here we all work, amIright jokes play;
Droolin' for votes that the dons of pun get,
Bettin' our jest will peer judges sway.

Don't block up and don't talk down;
You don't dare make the White House frown.
Bend your meaning now instead
To school the dopes and thrill them dead.

Get me away from dismissive hippies,
Get me away from the lighter floss.
Show me the cream of the clever jargon;
That's my whole dream of a song's true gloss.

Old Man Ribber, that bold ad-libber,
We trust goes hummin', but we won't say cuthin'.
He just keeps trollin' for, leaps at scrollin' a song.

He can't stand haters, any verse that's rotten,
And they that rants 'em are soon forgotten;
But Old Man Ribber just keeps dolin' out song.

You can see he whets each strain,
Bawdy or takin' stand, smacks the vain;
Quotes the bards and sifts their trail;
He gets a lotta spunk when he stands to ra-ail.

I get cheery at his slick trade plyin',
Inspired laughs givin'; each time tears from cryin'
When Old Man Ribber is just extollin' a song.

In line 8, liberals can sing "fuel their hopes", moderates "cool their hopes", and conservatives "chill them dead." In the penultimate line, "each time" should be "sometimes".

Old Man Ribber is one of my favorite writers here as well as one of my favorite online acquaintances, even though our political tastes differ. He is a great writer, and Barry, you've done a great tribute here, very much deserved, with equally deserved 5s. I've got to get a tribute to him done soon.
