Song Parodies -> "A Contender"

Original Song Title:

"Love Me Tender"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Elvis Presley

Parody Song Title:

"A Contender"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

The Lyrics

Elvis Presley copied Marlon Brando: Going through the Eisenhower years with the rebel look, the way with women and the rebellious icon status, followed by the JFK and LBJ years, with movies that did not show his true talent, followed by a big comeback in the Nixon years. Then, Brando copied Elvis: Falling back onto sporadic greatness but mostly shlock, erratic behavior and a stupendous waistline. Elvis died at 42. Brando should have been so lucky. It would have been in 1968, which probably would've given us Rod Steiger as Don Vito Corleone, but it might have been worth it. The song is sung by boxer-turned-longshoreman Terry Malloy from "On the Waterfront," 1954 -- Brando's first Oscar, the one he did show up for and accept.
A contender, I could be, I let myself go.
Title shot don't come to me, fights I had to throw.
A contender, could be true, chance for dreams' fulfill.
Oh, but Charlie, thanks to you, now they never will.

A contender, fighting strong, boxer with some heart.
In the ballpark I belong, gate, I get a part.
A contender, could be true, chance for dreams' fulfill.
Oh, but Charlie, thanks to you, now they never will.

A contender, champ next year, title belt is mine.
But I'm lifting crates of beer for a lord of crime.
A contender, could be true, chance for dreams' fulfill.
Oh, but Charlie, thanks to you, now they never will.

Rest in peace, Don Corleone. And you should all vote five on this parody. It's an offer you can't refuse.

In "The Wild Ones", Brando plays the leader of a motorcycle gang named "The Beetles", and he talks to a character named "Johnny". Guess which young man in Liverpool saw and was influenced by this American movie.

You have come to me and shown the proper respect, and your enemies shall become my parodies. And then -- they will fear you. Or, as Pacino said in my favorite role of his, Lt. Col. Frank Slade, USA Ret., in "Scent of a Woman"... "Ah'm just gettin' warmed up! Hoo-ah!"

This was awful. Horribly short, not entertaining at all.
