The Lyrics

It seems to me that the incoming president is going to have some pretty difficult meetings over the next few weeks. I figured one might go something like this...
De- e- e-ar President Obama
You've got a lot to do
Like shuttin' down Guantanama
Reducin' CO2
Withdraw from Iraq (caref'ly)
Then banish human greed
Holy moly! That's the change we need

Gee, Barack Obama, we're all so upset
That Bush has left the US with such humongous debt
A miracle's needed.. you're such a cool dude
Barack: deliver, or we're screwed

Or we're screwed!
Or we're screwed.. or we're screwed
For we're really screwed
Oh, BO, you know we're really screwed

(Spoken) Mr President, the first deputation is from Mr Richgit of the Chamber of Commerce

[Banker]
Dear Barack, now the onus
Of finance is on you
Just guarantee my bonus
A million or two
Giving me all this money
Helps the economy
Lovely lucre! Least it will help me...

Say, Barack Obama, our gauntlet's been hurled:
To rebuild the finances of the whole fiscal world
Our financial centres feel so insecure
And we don't want to end up poor

I'm not poor!

[Bankers]
We're not poor! We're not poor
We will not be poor
The US is doomed if we get poor

(Spoken) Next on the agenda, General Bombemall from the Pentagon

[General]
Our soldiers are in Iraq
And in Afghanistan
Forget invading Tie Rack
But what about Iran?
And then of course there's Israel
Where conflict still ain't ceased
Freakin' fightin' ... nowhere is there peace

Yes, Barack Obama, it's what tax is for:
For nothing costs more money than a good honest war.
Society likes seeing blood, guts and gore
So, ain't no wonder, we're at war

We're at war!

[All the Military]
We're at war! We're at war
That's what tax is for
For your entertainment, we're at war

(Spoken) Representatives of the Republican Party

[Republicans]
So now that you've got power
We hate the fact you've won
You've had nearly an hour
We don't like what you've done
Forget eight years of Dubya
And all he put us through:
Things look bad - we'll blame it all on you

Hey, Barack Obama, we're all really peeved
You've had your first ten minutes and what have you achieved?
That's what we predicted - we knew that you would
Never do nuthin' - you're no good!

You're no good!
You're no good, you're no good!
'Cause it's understood
That a Democrat is no damn good!

[All]
The trouble is th'economy
The trouble is the poor
The trouble is with healthcare
The trouble is the war
The trouble is with terror
The trouble is with fear

Barack, we've got troubles up to HERE

Gee Barack Obama
Just do what you can
'Cause it looks like the US is flushed down the pan
Gee, Barack Obama
You know what we'll do?
Gee, Barack Obama
Barrack you

Superb -- and, alas, dead on credible -- scene imagining, Phil. 5s for this.

And the Tony...er, the Oscar...no, the 5-5-5 goes to: Phil Alexander!
Andria - November 25, 2008 - Report this comment
I agree wholeheartedly with Stan. Also, I have to say that Obama will definitely have a lot of work to do involving Iraq, Afghanistan, the areas hit by Hurricanes Ike, Rita and Katrina, the auto industry, the financial/banking industries, the economy and environmental issues, among many other things. Plus, he and the Secret Service will have to take extra precaution in the American South and certain parts of the Midwest because of the Ku Klux Klan and other white-supremacist groups. Phil, here are 555 congressional medals of honor, awarded by President Andria. : )

Funny fives! Reflects many of our mood right now (although I find the OS a little hard to sing).

still amazed you can keep tossing up quality like this Phil, when the likes of me need prolonged breathers - yes, he's in for a right old time, Barack is - 555

:-) Thanks, all.. this was inspired by a messageboard thread entitled "Dear President Obama", and I couldn't read it without setting it to this tune

Stan - It is all too credible, more's the pity. Obama's got a lot of proverbial s*** to deal with

Andria - I thought this was quite a long song before I started, but now I realize that Desolation Row might have been better, given the amount there is to sort. I could definitely do another one with another set of people lobbying

Stu - here was me thinking that I had been taking a prolonged breather ;-) I've been doing a lot of performing recently, and practice time rather eats into the time I'd otherwise spend finishing parodies - I must have between 50 and 100 waiting to be completed now. Sigh.

Wow! Comments from Philsister and philsmum - what an accomplishment! Not many of us write parodies that are appreciated by family members.

Clever conclusion, Phil. Thanks for explaining " barrack."
Courtney - November 27, 2008 - Report this comment
Pretty good, scans a little wonky in places (especially the end). Some really good bits though (the bankers part is best). I love satire! Keep up the good work.

:-D Thank you mother dear & friend.. and sister, JJ & Courtney.

Mum & sis.. does this mean it's relatively good?

Dixie - not sure if I'm going to be recording this one. If I do, I'll send an email for sure. And well done on getting your man elected :-)
croper - December 06, 2008 - Report this comment
simply moronic, typical of Obama voter's educational level as proven in exit polls.

Eight years later, it's my turn! Look for "Gee, President Trumpy"!
