The Lyrics

What was that Iraqi reporter thinking when he threw those shoes at Dubya during that press conference? Here’s a random guess…
Well, I am an Iraqi
Work for the press
Bush bombed my country
Now it’s a mess

So I must… throw Mr. Bush my shoes
Hit him right in the head when I throw Mr. Bush my shoes

I wanna knock him down
Flat on his back
Call him a dog
Get him out of Iraq

So I must… throw Mr. Bush my shoes
Hit him right in the head when I throw Mr. Bush my shoes

So now I’m in jail
Folks are pissed
Don’t care, but I wish I hadn’t missed!
He’ll get what’s coming, this is the end
I told him: “Bushie, you will sing the blues!
I’ll try again, you’ll lose
Size ten was too small, but I’ll get you with bigger shoes!”

A great current write! I rerad this AM that the shoes were thrown for most of the reasons you put in the song - to show disgust. A good guess.

Yeah, and he's lucky it was not a SPURRED Cowboy Boot ! . . . . you TexyThing!

In the Arab world, showing someone the soles of you shoes is a symbol of disrespect (basically saying the person is beneath you), and throwing your shoes at someone/something shows extreme disrespect and contempt.

So in answer to Mari's question at the top of the page, the Iraqi was thinking roughly "Bush is no better than the dirt I walk on"

Welcome back, Mari. You are to be commended for a very prompt parody and I am certain that your speculation about the journalist's motives are correct. But if he wants to go back to the good old days of Saddam Hussein, then you have to wonder about the journalist.

Thanks, all! At least we all know now that, even though a lot of folks think that Bush is a heel, he does have a sole...
