The Lyrics

Rest in peace, Bob Hope. Let me be the first to wish him a funny farewell. Or try to.
Thanks for the memories.
For all the songs you sing.
The "Road" movies with Bing.
For 50 years of TV shows
and jokes 'bout anything.
And we thank you so much.

And thanks for the memories.
The ships you came aboard.
The soldiers' laughs you scored.
Surviving all those golf games
in Palm Springs with Jerry Ford.
And we thank you so much.

You turned a hundred, we thundered
the tributes came in bunches
but I had some unpleasant hunches
like George Burns, you'd then soon leave me.

But thanks for the memories.
Those nights on Carson's show.
The way you got so low
on Oscar night when other guys
to them, the prize would go.
And we thank you so much.

And thanks for the memories.
And now there will be tears
dripping in our beers.
But we should still be thankful
for a hundred laughing years.
And we thank you... soooo... much!

RIP Bob....it was a sad day when he died, because America got slightly less funny....I already did a huge tribute on the messageboard in the PPP section, but Ill just say, thanks for the memories....

Randomly latched onto this....it was before my time on A.I.R....just want to say, great job...Bob Hope was tops as a comedy actor and a humorist and comedian....one of a kind....you brought that out in this, very well...excellent...

I really enjoyed this. The last verse made me cry. Still does, when I reread it. Nice. Regarding a couple of the earlier verses: The Road movies with Bing. ( did you consider "pictures" since that is what his gen. called 'em? ) For 50 years of TV shows and jokes 'bout anything. ( or "everything" might have worked well too - perhaps I'm splitting hairs ) "The soldiers laughed, you scored" ( here was the chance to enhance "laugh" with "and roared" implying "he scored" and subliminally reminding us how brave our troops were and STILL are. I really liked your tribute. It made laugh. It made me feel and it made me think. I call THAT a trifecta! Thank YOU, sooooo much.

One of Bob’s personal lyrics: Thanks for the memories The night that I came home And found you weren’t alone You said he was a nudist Who’d come in to use the phone Oh, thank you so much

I remember a version .....that really was sublime, Road to and Bing Crosby, That was long before my time. Never found a recording of it, sadly
