The Lyrics

No, this isn't about Harry Redknapp. It's about an even bigger tax fraud, Willard M. Romney. The original song came out in 1958, but Mitt's actual pop culture tastes probably go back even further than that. He probably wishes he could live in 1953, when rock and roll was barely born, a bland Republican was in the White House, and women, nonwhites, gays and the poor all knew their place. And taxes were higher and labor unions were stronger, but Mitt didn't like those parts. When you heard Mitt's campaign spokesman describe his views as being like an Etch A Sketch, you could have easily guessed that I would pounce on it. The hard part was coming up with the base song, but I did it.
(Doo-wop opening)

Sitting here warching on the CNN.
Thinking that Mitt Romney's gonna gaffe again.
It's not the type of thing where he needs any help.
But a campaign spokesman had to talk and hell!

(Chorus)
He's got that
Etchy Sketchy feeling!
(Etchy Sketchy feeling!)
It's got Mitt rocking and a-reeling!
(Rocking and a-reeling!)
Every day a new gaffe topping!
Romney's carousel ain't stopping!
He's a-flipping, and a-flopping!

Well, remember stupid "president" George Dubya Bush?
Rock-solid in his certainty, no man of mush.
He told us that John Kerry, he flip-flopped too much.
Now the GOP has flip-flopper who's out of touch!

(Chorus)

Well, once Romney said he's fine with gays and he's pro-choice.
Until the evangelicals made lots of noise.
He gave his State a way to straighten out health care.
But the voters in his primaries thought it was unfair!

(Chorus)

Well, it looks like Mitt now has the nomination sewn.
But what he'll say tomorrow he believes, unknown.
He'll do an end-around, a policy reversed.
But against Obama he ain't gonna finish first!

He's got that
Etchy Sketchy feeling!
(Etchy Sketchy feeling!)
It's got Mitt rocking and a-reeling!
(Rocking and a-reeling!)
Every day a new gaffe topping!
Romney's carousel ain't stopping!
He's a-flipping, and a-flopping!

Every day a new gaffe topping!
Romney's carousel ain't stopping!
He's a-flipping, and a-flopping!
(Repeat until fade)

Bad. rhyming and pacing far off!

You're familiar enough with the original song to make a judgement on the pacing? (rolleyes) I did, however, make a mistake, thanks to the spellchecker on my cellphone on which I typed this up: In the first verse, "a campaign spokesman had to talk and hell" was supposed to be "talk and yelp," to rhyme with "needs any help."
