Apologies in advance to Patrick for using "Pat" instead of his full name, but pacing issues forced me into it.
Oh, his name is Pat McWilliams; he's from Kansas City, Kan.
His posts are in the hundreds; they are always in demand
In caves, with slate and pebbles and with feldspar and some coal
His forebears played for humanoids, inventing rock and roll

Oh, the ship bell rang as the singers sang of the wreck near Whitefish Bay
McWilliams spoofed a lot of tunes to mourn that frightful day
And many a parodist rooted and whooped, cuz the oodles of posts were grand
"A credit to old AmIRight," said Pat McWilliams' fans

Oh wow, he was conversant; as a linguist he had flair
Made scholarly observations, dealt with modern day affairs
With humorous slants and dire refrains, he shook those in command
Said they, "Our errors have been spiked by Pat McWilliams' hand"

While the grumps harangued at the wit and slang of the bards who wrote each day
McWilliams showed each afternoon with something nice to say
And plenty of parodies posted by newbs have amused this gracious man

McWilliams posts his droll lampoons, with skill so bright displayed

I could hardly let this one go without comment. My late father once wrote a parody of this very same song as "John McWilliams Band". I just returned from the St Patrick's Day parade in KC MO when I saw your fine tribute. You have caught all my themes from cloning to politics, to the Edmund Fitzgerald series. No need to apologize for "Pat". You should have heard some of the things I've been called over the years, occasionally by commenters at this site. You are not the most prolific author at AIR, but I have always held you to be one of the best. "The Search for the Man from Nantucket", the parody of "Mr Tambourine Man" with the line "rat-jump sinking ship", pure poetry. I thank you very much, you have given me a very high praise and a high standard to live up to. I wish I could buy you a bottle of Jim Beam, but you've probably heard about Kansas' strange liquor laws.

Forgot to mention that you answered two of my challenges, placed almost in jest, to parody a pair of irregular meter masterpieces by Bob Dylan: "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts" and "Chimes of Freedom". You even remembered Professor Incubus, an occasional contributor to AIR, whose own vocal renditions may be heard at Soundclick. You must have listened to his recordings of "Mr TSA Man", "Father Mackenzie", and "Gnostic Believer". Go raibh maith agat, a mo chara.

"Rat jump sinking ship" was by Michael Pacholek, another prolific writer from the opposite side of the political spectrum. One of my favorite lines.

Michael Pacholek started the "If ...Wrote 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'" fad. Though it seems Tommy Turtle had actually smooshed it with "American Pie" at least a year before that. It just didn't catch on at the time.
