The Lyrics

there are many parody versions of this song, including at least one with the same opening line, however this is basically original.
The people's flag is palest pink
we bleached it in the kitchen sink
and though our arms are stiff and sore
we'll bleach it just a little more

chorus:
Hang the scarlet banner low
why we bother I don't know
though cowards flinch and traitors sneer
we'll make them both feel welcome here

It suits today our stated aims
of bigger cages, longer chains
we'll hide it where it can't be seen
or maybe if we dyed it green

(chorus)

with heads uncovered swear we all
to sell our papers at Town Hall
and wave our placards in the air
and act like anybody cares

(chorus)
