today our politicians, come in just a couple colors
red and blue is what we call them, never been many others
tea party barges in, not allowing any compromise
sounding overly self-centered, they’ve got some fire in their eyes

this blues is for the red ones, and their recurring four-year problem
again beating on each other, the tea party’s strong among them
chanting ‘live free or die’, with their vow to never compromise
their loss of ground in Oregon, shows they’re not so super-sized

tea party made an inroad, in Midterm twenty-ten
they refuse to legislate, and they have stymied government
all round the world, their like is on the rise
with radical fundamentals, good people are left to die

reds are good for one thing, they cause government dysfunction
they are so flavorful, they’re called ‘neo – pol – I – tan’
with ever larger tax cuts, and border walls on the rise
they have lots of policy, designed to ostracize

our history says that once, red and blue served us well
they grew our middle class, so our history does us tell
half a century ago, we worked in purple compromise
we should try that again, before our great country dies
