I've always liked the melody of this one. It was a golden age of patriotic jingles including "Bonnie Blue Flag", "Battle Cry of Freedom", "Hail Columbia", "Old 1812" etc. That fellow who called me a nazi hasn't chimed in on this one, yet. The biggest difference between Lincoln and Obama is that Lincoln had to fight and win a Civil War. Obama... not yet. And why would we regret voting for him? He's doing a fantastic job. The Dow crossed 11,000 today for the first time since the moron was still in office.

The Dow index matters to people who can afford to invest in stocks. Most folks are still looking for jobs to pay the rent. I don't know how many right wing web sites you wander into, but there are folks talking Civil War II. Most of it is just wishful thinking, but it just takes one Tim McVeigh or a Joseph Stack with a bigger airplane to do a lot of damage. Obama is all but inviting it. When your plans or policies start provoking a violent response, it is time to reexamine them. Our government was designed to perform a few specific and relatively non controversial functions. Whenever you see divisiveness and name-calling and the potential for worse, look into the Constitution and see if the government should even be involved. In the case of Abraham Lincoln, he did have the option of allowing the South to go its own way, as the 10th Amendment allows. Or he could have supported the purchase of slaves from the owners as a preliminary step to emancipation. It might not have pleased the radical abolitionists, but it would have been far preferable to 600,000 dead. I think Obama is by education or instinct incapable of understanding the idea of an American wanting to be left alone. I have no quarrel with leftists's tastes in music, art, literature, etc as long as they pay for them . Anyone wanting to help the poor may do so, but only to the extent of his own resources. Freedom is the solution. We are not a united people, or a common cause, leave that to the Commies or Nazis. We are a nation of diverse goals and interests, and the only function of a proper government is to protect the country and provide a secure economic framework for everyone to go his own way.

Well done, Patrick. Constitutional freedoms do seem to be elusive concepts for those on the left to grasp. For some reason, when they get in power, Republicans don't do much better; but I think we will be enjoying some November tea parties this year.
