The Lyrics

badave.com as always hosts my recordings, at this time "Gothic Tension" had not been recorded.
and so I thought last night 'bout where I stand in my life
Why I'm so angry and how I will survive
I was praying stress would go away
I keep on wishing that things may change each day

It seems each choice is on the wrong side of the tracks
I get annoyed at ev'rything that I lack
and if I could just control how much I weight
Perhaps I'd crack a smile and even have a better day

Still I'm pushing on and I can't come around
My brain is blowing up and I always wear a frown
So I think I'll listen to a Green Day tune
They say it all so well
and I start to croon

Once I was happy too
and I swear that that's true
Never moaned but then I was not full grown
I'd be running care free, but that's become rare
Looking at myself and I'm in despair

Conforming's not ideal

My rant's a yawn
What is gender?
Please hear my plea
Hearts in blenders
Although I'm strange
Doomed forever
Can you help me
As I endeavor

So I may be a big slob
and my words are not sunny
Well I once took a vow
Hot Topic gets my money

Well you are now thinking that I am a big fool
Conform to not conforming, thinking I'm cool

Well it's not like I'm thinking 'bout my future once planned
I just keep on trying to be all I can
I keep, keep looking on up at the sky
Dyed my hair and threw away my ties

And now you'll hear my squeal

As I groan on
Through December
Fall to my knees
Wearing leather
I'm not deranged
Though I'm clever
My heart will be
lost Forever

Bla, bla, bla, bla bla bla bla bla
Bla, bla, bla, bla bla bla bla bla
My heart will be lost forever (Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla)

Well some think that I'm shallow and I've been disavowed
Will I ever give a care?
Feelings I can't allow!

It seemed that people think I don't have friends
so many around you'd think it is a trend

Well my speeches well worded and said profound
Will my legacy live when I'm not around
I don't, don't really like it when I cry
Whining to myself every single night

As I moan on
Voice is tender
Like a banshee
Pain is splendor
Friends aren't estranged
Whatsoever
So I'll still be
Goth forever

***Bla Bla chorus resumes in background***

I keep going
to cause a stir
Never happy
Like to suffer
it may be lame
Doesn't matter
You still hear my
Pointless chatter

**Video Edit Ends Here, Actual Edit has one more verse**

What's with pop songs
Can't remember
All the crap they
Through together
that's why I think
nothing matters
I will still be
me forever

Great job taking a song about a girl whining about leaving High School to an Emo Kid whining about everything! Brilliant fun!

(SOTM)Well Dave, you know I love ya, but...(sigh) I didn't get into this one much at all. I get what you were trying to do with it, but I found this to be not very exciting, a far cry from your usual work.

Without the title I too would have been at lost at what you were aiming for here, it's good and competent parodist work with pacing and lines but IMHO maybe SOTM isn't the forum for this angle, or maybe it just needs a humorous intro to set it up in a somewhat larger context to compensate for the lack of "normal" puns in the actual song.

I disagree with Aggy and Peter (See... I do stand up for what I believe in without being persuaded differently. -sticks tounge out-) Anyways... I like this as much as I liked it when I first read it, especially with the line "Heart's In Blenders" and telling this from the point of view of an Emo Kid... I just all around liked this one.

(SOTM-FEB08) And to think it could have been about Amy WHINEhouse.

(SOTM) Goth is alive and well(as opposed to their slogan, "Dead & Disturbed" lol). Very interesting subject matter. Good Job 555

(SOTM) The title kinda threw me off, as the parody seems to be more about emos than goths. Still, it was pretty good. Could've used a bit more of the funny

I hadn't heard TOS until now... great job pacing it (I didn't stumble once) and for keeping the feel of the original. "Conform to not conforming, thinking I'm cool" stuck out as really true, but I was hoping for more "lol" lines here.. I'm not sure what the angle on this was supposed to be... seems to me to be a subtle satire of the original. The varied choruses were a nice touch.

". . . subtle satire of the original." (angle;))

Thanks everyone for your opinions on this piece, I especially appreciate all the constructive criticism both positive and negative this month--those who leave me a good reason as to what makes it a top 5 and those who've left me good reasons as to why it isn't--it helps let me know what to improve and what is working--I appreciate it.

(SOTM) The OS is hilarious, how misled she is... almost everyone I knew in high school hasn't talked to me since Grad Nite 2006. Your parody is so true, I used to practically trip over all the emo kids in my school.

Tough song...God help me if my daughter grows up to be goth :) I think Red Ant put my thoughts into words on this pretty well.

Couldn't take the OS - never heard of the song, nor "Vitamin C" (apart from ascorbic acid, that is), and I'm feeling mighty aggrieved that I had to listen through that ;-) A good parody, but I'm afraid didn't make up for having to put up with the OS.

I thought you did a good job here Dave. I liked the Green Day reference as they too have penned an anthem to graduation. I like to call this OS the "Pachelbel Canon" of "days gone/days to come" songs, as the structure of the two tunes are the same.
Mikey Squirrel - March 31, 2008 - Report this comment
SOTM- I have a neice who's into goth, this sounds like her, almost. Very well done, Dave.
