The Lyrics

Parodied specifically for the ongoing Artistry competition.
Once upon a time, there was a lots of book shops, they sold bruised up rejects and some mint conditions. On some days, they might run a special "2 for 1 Sale" to cashin and clean shelves out, until the recession killed them off...

I want a book!

I want a book (head'll swirl)
Book it, girl (find a pearl)
Read something on the subway
Book (get a novel)
I wanna book it, girl (bookish world)
Fingertips to turn pages, why don't ya?

Book--to read's a gift
Book--read all day and night
Book--it's a, par-tay!
Book--Jonathan Swift
Book--a fanciful flight
Book--Spillane, Benet!

Since I got some cash to spare
I'm checkin' out the used book fair
Maybe buy a book or two
Literate mind is good for you (buy a novel)

Book (Conan Doyle)
Book (T.C. Boyle)
Maybe Ernest Hemingway
Book (Aristotle?)
I gotta book it, girl (bookish world)
Grab some chips, start reading 'The Decameron'

Book--Zane Grey's Old West
Book--no, try Richard Wright
Book--splashy font, eh?
Book--they have some heft
Book--but paperback's light
Book--have cash, will pay

Lots of novels everywhere
There's Melville, Chaucer and Flaubert
Nathaniel Hawthorne, Austen too
And Miguel Cervantes did 'Don Q' (Get a novel!)

Rimbaud?...Greek drama?...Collodi...Ambrose Bierce...Christie...Ferlinghetti...E.B. White...
Hardy...I can dig it...Nabokov...please no comment...
Huxley...Sterne wrote 'Tristram Shandy'

Maybe was late today-- Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte!
All that they had today--Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte, Bronte!

Used to have stores everywhere (they were everywhere)
Kindles and Nooks now are the flair
Nothing's like a book, it's true
Though I guess it saves a tree or two. (Buy a novel!)

Book (Edgar Poe)
Book ('Ivanhoe')
That's my thing on an offday
Book (want a novel)
I wanna read it, girl (bookish world)
It's so hip, even in Alabama
Book (to read's a gift)
Book (and it's a right)
Book-- I say Ok!
Book! Book! Book! Read a novel!

I have one thing to say...I love a book (Bitch!l

Agri - In the words of Larry King, this is a good read! Tell me more about this ongoing artistry competition...it sounds intriguing even if it is beyond my abilities at this time. ;D

OMR look for various posts in the Am I Right Parody Contests forum at inthe00s.com... basically Below Average Dave organized this (usually) biweekly challenge of parodying artists mostly selected by participants.

A lot of this soared over my head Aggy. I got maybe three references out of this... Ernest Hemingway, Aristotle and Melville. I'm totally not your target audience with this one as I had no idea what you were talking about throughout most of it. Sorry pal.

As a fellow bibliophile, I loved this parody. Not sure why, but the "Bronte Bronte Bronte" lines really cracked me up.

(Artistry) Yeah, I'm with Matty on this one. I'm a pretty young guy and I honestly haven't read to many notable novelists. I've read what I've been told to read in school, and not much else. I did get a few references, but not too many. I'm sorry that I'm not well-read enough to understand this one.

(Artistry) I may not get all the references, but I like that's stopped me from enjoying a parody (politics aside). Very well done parody here, Agri, 555!

I got the references, I just had trouble pacing it a bit. . at any rate I enjoyed it and am glad you toughened through it, because I know you are, shall we say, not a fan of RuPaul
