The Lyrics

Paul Hellyer says that George W. Bush has a base on the moon and that he's going to touch off an intergalactic war.
Hellyer's extraterrestrials; (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Paul's in touch with the celestials. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
It's all Bush's fault, he wants us to confess... (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
We'll get into an interstellar mess. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
They Saved Hitler, with a twist. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
See you on the Moon if you make the list -- (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)

Now, Lefty, did you hear about this one?
Really, do you think very much?
Lefty, is your "stupid" thing endless? (Well, maybe...)
Are you out of touch?

If you believe we've got a base on the moon, (base on the moon?)
If you believe there's something up our sleeve,
Then who's getting fooled?

Mister Martin got kicked right in his wood. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
No confidence cleaned his clock but good. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Canada's attic is filled with moonbats. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Now you'd better put on your tinfoil hats. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)

Well, Lefty, did you hear about this one?
Did I hit your bone with that punch?
Lefty, are you losing your senses? (You're crazy!)
Did you blow your lunch?

If you believe we've got a base on the moon, (base on the moon?)
If you believe we've got this up our sleeve,
Then what's wrong with you?

Here's some superstition for the lefty believer. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Here's to the land that's hardly a nation. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Here's to the crowd's pathetic deceiver. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Paul Hellyer got a standing ovation. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)

Now, Lefty, have you heard about this one?
Why do you keep missing the punch?
Lefty, did you fuse all your gray cells? (LSD!)
Did your credit crunch?

If you believe we've got a base on the moon, (base on the moon?)
If you believe there's something up our sleeve,
Then who's getting fooled?

If you believe we've got a base on the moon, (base on the moon?)
If you believe we've got this up our sleeve,
Then what's wrong with you?

If you believe we've got a base on the moon, (base on the moon?)
If you believe Bush has this up his sleeve,
Then your head's unscrewed...

This was kinda funny.

Another example of a parody author cleverly using many of the original song's original lyrics in a way that literally forces the original song to "parody itself". Great technical job of OS-exploitation, parody lyric formatting, and parenthetical chorus structures.

If Bush really put a base on the Moon, then the guys who made "Space: 1999" were only a little off. You know, where a nuclear blast on the lunar surface sends the Moon careening out of Earth orbit and into space? I could see Bush's stupidity causing a "Space: 2006."

I really don't see why everyone has to hate Bush. So he does some dumb things, big deal. Who doesn't? Anyways, this is one of my favorite REM songs. Very well done. 555. LOL.
