Song Parodies -> "Pump-kins"

Original Song Title:

"Lump"

 (MP3)
Parody Song Title:

"Pump-kins"

Parody Written by:

McKludge

The Lyrics

'tis the season. For pacing, pronounce orange as one syllable like 'ornj'
Pumpkins are grown at a soggy farm
But you can grow them too in your own back yard
October, time for pumpkin carving
You should not eat a whole one even if you’re starving

They’re pump-kins pump-
kins orange not red
Yeah pump-kins pump-kins pump-
kins make good bread

Pumpkins during fall are adored
It’s a kind of fruit, but is it melon, squash, or gourd?
Some folks say that they make good soup
To take out insides use really bi-ig ice cream scoop

For pump-kins pump-
kins my advice
Make pump-kins pump-kins pump-
kins into pies

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuum Yuuuum
Cinnamon, nutmeg
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuum Yuuuum
Graham cracker cruuu-ust
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuum Yuuuum
Topped off with whipped cream
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuum, pie!

Pumpkin jack-o-lanterns have triangle eyes
Pumpkins are cooler with candles placed inside
Their leaves and vines kind of look like weeds
Add salt and oil and roast all the seeds

They’re pump-kins pump-
kins lots of fun
The big-gest pump-kin pump-
Kin? Half a ton

Love I pump-kins all the time? I think so
Have I pump-kins on my mind? I think so
Are the pump-kin guts like slime? I think so
What do I – do with the rinds?
Happy Halloween!

Your pumpkins parody is quite smashing!

roasted, they're beautiful, McKludge - the sugar comes oyt and caramelizes - and wow, cinnamon and nutmeg get mentions in 2 parodies so far today, and I've just started - I've never understood how "pumpkin" hurdles over all other vegetables to become THE cool pet-name for adored children though - 555

I LOVE the OS, and was hoping that one day someone with talent would parody it...glad it was you, McK. Brill! 555

stuart, Daddy calls me pumpkin cuz I have about the same amount of brains as one. ... oh, and Mr. McCrotch, the Turtle guy says he never heard of the song or band -- he is sooo out of it -- but he likes the seeds and the song, and gave you (thinks... one, two, three, four,,, what's that number? oh yeah! ) Fives.

Even Charlie Brown would love this big orange.... er... gourd-geous (ahem!... parody!

A 3 for pacing? Where did I mess up?

Stuart - Must be regional. In Russian, pumpkin is slang for a large ugly woman.

Kris - Thanks for the complement.

Kelly - Let's rock, pun'kin.

TJC - Ah, poor deluded Linus. And he was supposed to be the smart one.

And Aggy and Alvin - Thanks.

For being a parody about pumpkins, pumpkins and more pumpkins, this one actually manages to keep from getting boring. There WERE a few lines that had fewer syllables than in the OS, but even so, I still think whoever gave you that 3 was being a little too harsh. Instead, I'm giving you 4 Snickers, 4 Butterfingers, and 4 Hershey Bars. Trick or treat.

That was awesome! I paordied this last year as "Claus"
McKludge - October 24, 2007 - Report this comment
Thanks, Jack.

Jonathan - Are you sure about syllables? I checked the OS lyrics from a couple of sites, and I'm dead on with those. Are you thinking of Weird Al's "Gump" for pacing? But I'll take the candy, even if I am trying to lose weight.

SOTM - Carmine (2LOUD) Boccotesta would call this one `a real punk-in-a head parity`. The great pumpkin says to vote 5s on this one.
Matthias - November 15, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Halloween is my favorite holiday so you automatically get fives on that account, but it was also a kick ass parody so you get fives on that account as well. Boo!!!

SOTM - I've never thought about it this way before but it really is the season when pump's are pimped...

(SOTM) I think the idea is cute, but I did get lost a number of times trying to follow the choruses. . .maybe the word 'for' is what's throwing me off, because the song as no intro word, and it was kinda hard to follow with the second half of Pumpkin (kin) being on the second line the way it was. I don't go by lyric sites, I go by the song, and I do apologize, but it's not as tight as your pacing normally is, still a great idea.

SOTM- It's the Great Pumpkin Parody, Charlie Brown! Good job, McKludge!

(SOTM) Amazing! You managed to keep this parody going, given the minimal topic. You're better than me at that, at any rate ;)

(SOTM) see above - and a half-ton pumpkin? wow! - and seeing I've already offered one recipe McKludge: pumpkin, garlic, chicken stock, and nutmeg makes a perfect soup, with a dollop of yoghurt in the middle (and a sprig of parsley of course!)
Kristof Robertson - November 29, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) See above. Very silly, which for me really makes a parody. Loved it

Roasted, with cinnamon and nutmeg... mmm Sorry, just went a bit pie-eyed for a sec.

(SOTM) I liked the title a lot, and the parody wasn't bad either.

Clever idea, you did a good job with this one. Seasonal too :)

Matthias - My favorite holiday, too. This year I dressed up as Sideshow Bob.

B.A.D. - I'm still positive the pacing is right. I listened to the song several times, and the chorus goes "She's lump, she's lump, she's in my head" so mine goes "They're pump, kins pump, kins orange not red" Admittedly, I'm breaking a word apart to match the pacing.

bob - Yeah, I had to stretch a bit on pumpkin facts.

stu - According to the internets, the biggest one was around 1600 pounds, but half a ton rhymed better.

And everyone else, thanks for the comments.
