The Lyrics

Put on my blood-stained shoes
And I boarded the bus.
Stepped down in the show-me state
in the shadow of the arch at dusk.

Martin Luther King Jr.
Won't you watch down over me.
Yeah I got big chip on my shoulder
but I'm as white as a boy can be.

Then I'm raging in Ferguson
Expressing my dissension in any way that I feel.
Looting in Ferguson
But do I really need the things I steal?

Saw the ghost of Michael
On Florissant Avenue
Followed him up to the Family Dollar
Then I watched him march us through
Now security, they did not stop us
They're just gathered on the street
There's a pretty little thing
with a can of gasoline
Torching the Mickey D's

When we were raging in Ferguson
We were expressing our dissension in any way that we feel.
Burning down Ferguson
But only shooting cops can seal the deal.

They've got righteous indignation.
They've got hands raised in the air.
Reverend Al be glad to help you when you haven't got the fare.
Boy, you'll have the fare to Ferguson.

Louis holds a rally every Friday down on Canfield Drive
and they brought me down to join him,
and they asked me if I would
throw a Molotov cocktail
and I heaved with all my might,
and he said, tell me are you an anarchist,
and I said, man I am tonight!

Raging in Ferguson
I was expressing my dissension in any way that I feel.
Looting in Ferguson
But do I really want the things I steal?

Raging in Ferguson
We were expressing our dissension in any way that we feel.
Burning down Ferguson
But only shooting cops can seal the deal.

Put on my blood-stained shoes
And I boarded the bus.
Stepped down in the show-me state
in the shadow of the arch at dusk.

Stepped down in the show-me state
in the shadow of the arch at dusk.

Nice city swap. "Do I really need the things I steal"? Either way, they shouldn't be stolen. Captures the irrationality of the whole riot mentality. I wonder how many of the people who were rioting in the name of Michael Brown would have invited him to their home while he was alive. Or let him in their store without keeping a close watch on him. Or maybe would have ended up shooting him over some dispute. This song is the reason AIR needs another category beside "Funny" for songs of serious intent.
