The Lyrics

Basically a song about the periodic tables...this idea came to me today when I heard my chem teacher refer to Florine as "Atomic number 9," and from there I built this parody...enjoy...
one two, three four five
ev'ry proton in it's spot so the mass is nine
to the electron in the outer most shell
say they designate the groups that the element belongs to
Mg is active and weak
Au's gold, baby, that aint cheep
like the Sodium, Silicon, argon, and Copper
and as I continue, they only getting harder
so what can I do, chem-estry is really hard
just like drawing those things made by Bohr
Neutrons high, add some, isotope it
atomic mass is different

a little bit of Lithium to my right
a little of Beryllium at my side
a little bit of Argon's all I need
a little bit of Xenon's all I see
a little bit of Tin and Gallium
a little bit of salt and Calcium
a little bit of Ox'gen: number eight
a little bit of Zinc makes me insane

Atomic Number 5

look for the sign
what did Thompson find?
Periods go by line
What group is Alkaline?
Take one Cobalt
and one Bromide
metals are on left
Metalloids to the right
electrons once
valance cell twice
'tomic radius
should increase by nine

a little bit of Lithium to my right
a little of Beryllium at my side
a little bit of Argon's all I need
a little bit of Xenon's all I see
a little bit of Tin and Gallium
a little bit of salt and Calcium
a little bit of Ox'gen: number eight
a little bit of Zinc makes me insane

elements
the elements
Atomic number 5

a little bit of Lithium to my right
a little of Beryllium at my side
a little bit of Argon's all I need
a little bit of Xenon's all I see
a little bit of Tin and Gallium
a little bit of salt and Calcium
a little bit of Ox'gen: number eight
a little bit of Zinc makes me insane

I do all
searching for Boron: group five
they cant run, but boy they do hide
group two is Earth Alkalis

a little bit of Lithium to my right
a little of Beryllium at my side
a little bit of Argon's all I need
a little bit of Xenon's all I see
a little bit of Tin and Gallium
a little bit of salt and Calcium
a little bit of Ox'gen: number eight
a little bit of Zinc makes me insane

That's one way to learn those tables...hehe. A really super job on this. 5's

Not quite as good as The Elements, by Tom Lehrer. But definitely the *second-best* parody about the periodic table I've heard ;-).

Michael - Brilliant, so much so that as soon as I read your comment at the top I immediately thought of "Love Potion Number 9" by The Searchers. Hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of writing my very own parody on this subject, which should post tomorrow.

So, was it subliminal on your part to choose five instead of nine for the number since there are no holes for 9 in the voting box? Sure glad you did because I got number nine. So the rest of you writers don't sweat it there are still about 116 numbers still not taken. Better get writing, those numbers are going fast.

Great parody - it rocks and thanks for the inspiration.

As Holmes probably wouldn't have said: elementary, my dear Florio ;-) ... OK, Guy - if you insist... (or, as one amoeba said to the other: "if you encyst")

Yeah, you should've worked boron into it somehow :-)

Remember in one episode of Futurama where it was sponsored by "molten boron"? That cracked me up for some reason. I'm weird.

I have to take a lot of what you say for granted Mikey. In the meantime, have some 5's and some *****'s!

I thought it would take too long to do each element in turn, so I've gone for the whole first row transition elements: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/simonandgarfunkel13.shtml

Very clever and very original. An inspired exploitation of the Periodic Table! If there was a fourth voting category for "How Original", I'd give you a 5 in that as well - but you'll have to settle for 5-5-5.
MysteryGoat - February 29, 2004 - Report this comment
I never liked the original song itself but your parody makes it all better. It'd probably help if I knew a little somthing about the periodic tables, but overall it's funny.

For this, you get a voting mumber 555!

Good job Michael. 5 stars. I have just added a new Shania Twain parody to the Shania Twain section that I think you would enjoy. There is even a link to a sample of the original song. Any comments or votes would be graciously appreciated. This is a parody of "Whose Bed Has Your Boots Been Under?" and although it says written by "Twain/Lange", it was ofcourse written by me.

Man, there's a lotta really good songs I've missed. Well done Mike.

I'm not really feeling the pacing on this one - incredibly amusing, and the chorus is right on, but the verses seemed a bit off in places. So I'm afraid you're only getting one 5 from me.

I never voted? Wow, where is my head? Really good job with this, Mike. One heck of a way to learn the tables. 5's
