"Speaker of the House"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

After her starring role in the US medical system overhaul, Nancy Pelosi deserves my tribute. What better model could I choose than the landlord / inkeeper in TOS? Well, he was a capitalist who never borrowed or loaned money foolishly, and he did own a business that provided services at competitive prices, but other than that...
Come, visitors, sit yourself down
And meet the best House Speaker, renowned.
As for the rest, all of them crooks,
Looking their best while cooking the books.
Seldom do you see
Honest gals like me
(I meant, of good intent)
Who's content to be

Speaker of the House, selling out the farm,
Ready with a handout or a twisted arm.
Tell a glossy tale, make a little sense;
Presidents appreciate my confidence.
Glad to do a friend a favor;
Doesn't cost me to be nice.
Resisting gets you nothing;
Ev'ry vote has got a dif'rent price!

Speaker of the House, reaper of this crew,
Ready to relieve the rich of what I'm due.
Slaughtering the fine, taking down the great,
Stickin' up-their-prick tax till they can't pee straight.
All the loafers love San Fran Nan,
Welfare mothers' bosom friend.
I do what would have pleased that Jesus;
Want their freedom to suspend!

Speaker of the House, quick to snatch your pie,
Always want a massive bill to pass as "bi".
Servant of the poor, battler of the great,
Commissar, bill officer, plan life-long state!
Ev'ryone can choose companion;
Morals are not cast in stone.
But lock up your gold pieces, Croesus,
Lest I skin you to the bone!

Enter, observe, laws being made --
Replace our roots, best in the shade.
Bill weighs a ton, travels in hearse;
It's clear we strive to lighten your purse.
Peer committees looked
Ere the ink was dried,
And ev'ry vote is hooked
Till I'm satisfied.

Charge fair carbon price, Bush's tax breaks slice.
Who'll dissent for counting Medicare cuts twice?
Here a little slice, there a little cut;
Deep discount for unions who keep their mouths shut.
When it comes to fiscal crises,
There are a lot of tricks she knows.
How the debt increases, all the bits and pieces;
Jesus would go crazy, heaven knows!

Ev'rybody bless San Fran Nan,
Never gaudy dress or blouse.
Ev'rybody raise a glass --
Raise it up that all bills pass.
Ev'rybody praise the brass
Of the Speaker of the House!
I skipped TOS stanza about making sausage, because there was no analogy with creating legislation....or was it too obvious?

Line 1 should have "visitor" or "yourselves" and "dissent for" should be "dissent from" in line 42.

SLYRICS (sly lyrics) strikes again. You've had to do some real work here to pull this off. And, bless you, you did it! No wonder we are in the "Miserables" shape we are today! ;D

It's about time we had a good Speaker of the House again. Haven't had one since ol' Tip retired. Jim Wright blew it, Tom Foley barely even showed up, and as for the GOP, well...

Ahh, for the likes of Thomas O'Neill again! He and that other Irishman (President What'shisname) did a lot of good together. Tip hit the nail on the head when he said "All politics are local"...i.e. "Throw the rascals out - but not OUR rascal!" ;D

I mangled this song once myself. It's a challenge. I haven't played baseball for years, but when I see Pelosi's face on TV I want to pick up a bat again. (Outdoor games are good, healthy exercise).

As Michael said, we need a good Speaker of the House. Maybe after November, we will.

Meant to say, "After November, maybe we'll have one".

Barry, another brilliant "musi-litical"(musical of political events) rendition from you! And great tribute to Pelosi! Speaking of which, here's 5's!!

Thanks, ev'ryone except the mystery 4-2-2 voter (who struck twice today & previously).
@ OMR: Thanks for standin' up for the R speakers against MP's Ds. I thought Tip said "vocal" ;D.
@ Patrick: Did you mean to imply that I mangled it? But you're forgiven; I think you're an R.

Mangling is what I did. I also posted a version of "One Day More" on the day before Obama's inauguration. Didn't get a single vote or comment as I recall. Les Misérables is a wonderful source for parody tunes.
