The Lyrics

While Mystery Science Theater 3000 did have a "mirror universe" episode (complete with lots of riffs on the original Star Trek episode that brought us the original concept), it never had a special "mirror universe" episode opening sequence like the Star Trek: Enterprise "In A Mirror Darkly" episodes (and later the Star Trek Continues episode "Fairest of Them All") to amuse the fans. So I came up with one.
In the not-so-distant future
Way down in Deep 13
Joel Hodgson and Mike Nelson
Were hatching an evil scheme!

Took Doc Forrester and TV's Frank—
Just a couple of schlubs who didn't rank;
Their experiments needed a good test case,
So they conked 'em on their noggins and they shot 'em into space!

("We... want... OUT!!!")

"We'll send them wretched movies,
Our worst surplus finds!" (Tra la la!)
"They'll have to sit and watch them all
While we monitor their minds!" (Tra la la!)

Now keep in mind they can't control
Where each movie begins or ends— (Tra la la!)
Because those special parts got used
To make their robot friends...

Robot Roll Call:
Vidbot! ("This job sucks!")
Romy! ("This makes no sense!")
Joe Gumball! ("I'm the straight bot!")
Goooaaal! ("You're all freaks!")

If you wonder how these schlubs eat and breathe
And other plot point facts, (Tra la la!)
Then repeat to yourself "It's just a show;
I really ought to relax..."

...For Mystery Science Theater Three Thousand!
[Discordant note plays as a guitar string snaps.]
Of course, in that particular episode, the bots were down with EVIL Mike Nelson, the mirror Mads were stuck on the Satellite of Love by themselves, and Joel Hodgson was nowhere to be seen. Bearing in mind how MST3K later seasons' opening narratives had a way of contradicting their predecessors, however, I figure they would tend to do the same in the mirror universe version as well (and this is actually the theme song for the preceding era). As for what became of Joel? If you really want to know, try looking up what happened to mirror Captain Kirk's predecessor Captain Pike in that original Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror" sometime...
