The Lyrics

Don't remember the original? I found a copy on the producer's web site: http://www.playgroundstudio.com/mp3/index.htm
She says she's gonna be a star
No matter what we are
She says we're gonna make it far
I'm happy where we are

We're out of work,
We're out of school
We're out of bread
She isn't out of hope, yet

I'd give her, oh
Anything she wants
Nothing left for me
I think she might be going crazy
She thinks the same of me
She says she's gonna be a star
We're living in my car

We should be out there putting aps in,
Getting work to get ahead
We're huddled over sheets of paper
Running lines instead

She stops and says I drive her crazy
She does the same to me
She lets me suffer for her art
We memorize the part

I thought I'd be there when she made it
She couldn't stay with me
She never meant to break my heart
She has to play the part.

(ABC) Well, if we don't read it as a metaphor, it sounds like the aspiring life of an actor/actress and their S.O., who part ways...hmm, some parts of this I can actually relate to, from the distant past.

(ABC) Reminds me of Marianne Faithfull's "Brain Drain" :-)

(ABC) Nice read and poignant story. I wasn't able to access the audio link so I can't fully get the "tone" to add into the mix. Sounds like I missed out on something good.

Thanks Merry and Paul! Merry -- I had to look up the lyrics to that song, I don't think I've heard it -- I definitely see what you mean! Paul, it is definitely your turn to wear the good sport crown you've bestowed on so many of us. I'm very touched that you tried so hard and I'm very sorry it took up so much of your time. :)
