"A Farewell To The Bush Administration"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I had the (slightly different) first verse to this while the old administration was still in power.. and thought I'd not finish it. Then it struck me that it was the perfect start to a valedictory ditty.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with deep regret
And greatest sadness that I mourn the passing
Of an administration that gave the world so
much to aspire to, and laugh at:
George Bush's

I...
Liked...
Dick
I liked Dick
Though he made most people sick
He was brainy
Was Dick Cheney
(Though his Pres was rather thick)
Oh, so deep
Was the Veep
He made Rumsfeld look asleep
And there ain't no way he'd bore ya
(Leastways, not if you're a lawyer)
He's for them - like a shot
(That's a bird? Oh, no, it's not)
But he surely covered every legal trick
Well, wasn't he so nice
The President of Vice
What a Dick
He's a Dick
I liked Dick

I miss Don
I miss Don
And I'm sad to see he's gone
He was funny, was Don Rummy
Though he did go on and on
But now his time is through
Is that one a known he knew?
I know unknown knowns are no-nos
Knowing unknowns is a bonus
But we knew he stood for
Military spending, war
And he sure did like a good invasi-yon
He was both bright and dense
The ex-sec of Defence
Bye-bye Don
Don, so long
Such a shame you got it wrong
I miss Don
I miss Don
I miss Don

I miss Rice,
Miss Miss Rice
I thought she was rather nice
She could please, our Condoleeza
I would squeeze her in a trice
She was sharp, like a knife
Guess I'm glad she's not my wife
Yet it seemed she was innately
Very Secret'ry of State-ly
Someone who tried to be
A democrat (with a small "d")
And I'm sure she'd still be cheap at twice the price
But now she's gone away
The former NSA
And I miss Rice
Miss C Rice
I miss Rice

Gen'ral Powell
Gen'ral Powell
At the moon you didn't howl
You were there in Bush's lair, at least
'til you threw in the towel
You desert-ed the cause
Maybe 'cause of dodgy wars
Then set more right-wingers wailin'
Shafting John McCain and Palin
That was cool, I'll admit
Saying Sarah P's a twit
And the whole damn GOP were crying "Foul!"
And here's one more "no-win":
How you pronounce "Colin"
So bye-bye Powell
Bye-bye Powell
Bye-bye Powell
Bye-bye Powell

It's not a far-Right-house
With Obama in the White House
He's begun not being fun like the old crew
Ah, those good old days of great invasions
Suddenly those good old days are few
Ten months out of power
Now they're looking oh, so sour
These Republicans not used to second best
Rove and Bolton, Negroponte, Ashcroft...
Mon dieu! There's so many
But who we miss most of any:

We miss Bush
We miss Bush
As he vanished with a "whoosh!"
He's gone so low-profile, so low: lower than
A mouse's tush
Like a wheel that's been broke
All that we have left: mis-spoke
And now history's deciding
Between praising and deriding
Force, of course, won by gun
Now he's left eight years of.. "fun"
He's caused death and war up to the Hindu Kush
However, now he's gone
Let's face it.. so's the fun
So bye bye Bush
We'll miss Bush
We
Will
Miss
Booooooooosh!

"I know unknown knowns are no-nos"

Quite the tongue twister there. Nice "homage" to #43.
Anonypub - September 14, 2009 - Report this comment
This parody is the polar opposite of a Poli-tick-ly Incorrect parody. In other words, satirically funny without the hackle raising vitriol. 555.

Classy job on a classic OS!!!...555!!!

I saw your partial the other day and thought this was a great start to a parody and hoped to see it done. And now it is and you have finished this off well. Way to stick to the theme and feel your tribute and and goes really well with OS.

Rice and Cheney are Beauty and The Beast? 5-5-5 ;D

This is grade A, blue ribbon, 100% pure class, Phil. Thanks for reminding us how much the Bush administration were a satirists wet dream. 555+
Glen S - September 14, 2009 - Report this comment
I got so sick of Bush parodies, but this had some lines that won me over. Enjoyed the look back, Phil. We'll see how funny Obama becomes. Especially liked:

"I know unknown knowns are no-nos/Knowing unknowns is a bonus"

Genius, genius, genius!!!! (You, of course, not the former prez...or the present prez, for that matter) :D

A real "Push push out of Bush"! We're glad he's gone! Nice take on the OS and those Republicans. 555!

Extremely well done...most humorous spoof on the Bush Adm..I've seen
Silver Power - September 14, 2009 - Report this comment
I still love the first verse the most. I'm so glad you decided to post this. 5s for this, it's definately a SOTM contender, if you enter it, that is.

Very well done, 555. It also appears there will be no shortage of material with the current administration. ;-)
Phil Alexander - September 15, 2009 - Report this comment
Thank you very much, everyone :)

In this one respect, I am sad to see Bush & co gone: although there does seem a bit of potential with the new guy, Obama simply isn't funny enough or extreme enough to be funny. Yet. (Though I have to say that the utter idiocy coming out of some of the people who oppose him is kind of funny)

McK & Glen - I felt that I captured the spirit of Rumsfeld with that couplet :)

All those who mentioned the OS: it's a favourite of mine, and I keep feeling I've done it to death but can't resist one more. I did give anyone who wanted a chance to get in on this, but I guess nobody's quite as fanatical about "Be Our Guest" as I am :-)

Kristof - good to know you're still in the land of the living. Do you check your PMs on the messageboard, by any chance?

AFW - I'm not sure I'd want to try comparing Bush spoofs to get the "most humorous".. I'd end up terminally depressed about how the guy got elected in the first place ;-)

Silver Power - I suppose it was nearly five years ago the last time I entered a BOG parody into SOTM, so maybe it is time for another :)
Michael Pacholek - September 16, 2009 - Report this comment
And stay out! Nice job, Phil. But, in case you forgot, he did NOT get elected in the first place. He got appointed in the first place.
Phil Alexander - September 16, 2009 - Report this comment
Michael - it's why I find it kind of ironic that he wanted to install an American-style democracy in Afghanistan...and now it seems their last elections were corrupt ;-)
rob - September 17, 2009 - Report this comment
yup - bush is gone - it is all odumbas now. A WAR FOR OIL - BAILING OUT THE RICH - CRAPPY ECONOMY - UNEMPLOYMENT RISING - commie libs oughtta be proud of the mindless muslum
Phil Alexander - September 17, 2009 - Report this comment
rob - is that supposed to be some kind of irony, too? Calling the president "odumba", while making over half-a-dozen spelling, grammatical and factual errors and trying to pass the buck from Bush to the guy who inherited his sh1tstorm makes it seem that the people arguing against Obama are the sort of simple mindless idiots they're accusing him of being.

And for a second I thought I would win this months SOTM. You're almost definitely getting 1st this month. Phil, you know how I feel about this parody. I told you months ago on InThe00s. I told you weeks ago when you posted this. This is the funniest parody I've read since I've been here at Amiright, and unless someone somehow makes something better, you're getting my 5 points, no question. See my comment above.

SOTM - Many clever and insightful lines, great phrasing, and good pacing. A wonderfully entertaining parody.
Peter Andersson - October 12, 2009 - Report this comment
I can't came up with anything witty or any real feedback comment for this, it's just solid use of the OS for the choosen subject, so I'll just say that as a requiem song it's right up there with my two favs, Thin Lizzy's "King's Call" and Saxon's "Requiem (We Will Remember)", I'm sure you know the first, the second's on YouTube too.

Phil - You nailed this one. Great BOG parody. TMGLTM. Well done.
John Jenkins - October 18, 2009 - Report this comment
Very, very good spoof, Phil. All of the verses are excellent, but the Cheney verse probably is the best. The parody has many funny lines, including the “bore ya/lawyer” couplet, but the most humorous line is your comment, “Obama simply isn't … extreme enough to be funny.”
Silver Power - October 23, 2009 - Report this comment
Phil, I feel like an idiot. When I voted for SOTM, I completely forgot your parody, and votes aren't allowed to be changed! =[ I feel really stupid for not seeing your parody in the list of entrants, and I've been in a lot of contests recently, and yours somehow slipped my mind to look for. My eternal apologies go to you, you wrote my favorite parody of all time, and I forgot about you. You may now hit me over the head 3 times.

Yet another Be Our Guest song, and yet another Bush song but somehow you made this stand out among the crowd perhaps it's because your not from America.
bobpiecheese - October 31, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I know virtually nothing about US politics. I harldy know anyone you name-checked, outside of Bush, Cheney (though all I know of Cheney is 'he's the VP that shot someone in the face'), Palin, Obama and McCain. I understand the gist of what's being said, but I don't get the various references to everything these people have done. You nailed the pacing, though. That I am sure of. 555 for the hell of it.
