The Lyrics

For some reason, I've been on a "songs about cars" kick lately...
With one light on, and none soon
You'll start it up, and not get home
It's one small step to give it care
I know your book is on repair
If you bought this thing, then you must be stoned
Are you surprised you drive in it alone?
For this piece of shi* you own
Has to be a clunker again
The worst car in the world - it's like a sin
Just like a used pair of depends
So let it go

The salesman crook and pain it took
the miles are up, the payment's down
One long pause
Then you forget
Oh look what's been done to it
If you bought this thing, then you must be stoned
They should be kind enough to tow it home
Cause this piece of shi* you own
Has to be a clunker again
The parts were found inside a garbage bin
Just has three wheels and rims of tin
So let it go
You can grieve

For the wing you've placed upon the back looks too heavy now
And I don't know what you'll do with it below twenty miles an hour
And all the time I'm thinking... laughing....

I want to see that clunker again
I want to see an S-U-V upend
To watch a broken camshaft spin
So let it go

It was ok; I'm surprised no one voted and/or commented yet.

I kinda liked it.

Superior pacing and clever use of the original lines. However, the overall feel of the song didn't fit as well as some of your others with your subject matter, which took away from humor. Then again, the line "And I don't know what you'll do with it below twenty miles an hour" was quite funny. Ok: 5,4.5,4 and I'll round the 4.5 up to a 5 for funny.

Thanks again, 2nz.... It seems that the more obscure the song I pick, the weaker the material is. I was just in a car mood that day....

I don't think the song's all that obscure; it was on Dido's "No Angel" album. The song was a hit, but not until two years after the album was released. I'm very familiar with it. I gave it 5,5,5.

Thanks Joe... I'm a big Dido fan myself, but it seems like the only songs that most people remember from No Angel are "Thank You" and "Here with Me."

That's probably because they were big hits and most well-known. "Hunter" probably didn't do as well on the charts. Now I guess I gotta re-vote, because the ballot box seems to be empty again.
